Stoeger Stoeger, optics, moderators and POI shift. I'm stumped.

So I decided to shoot my Stoeger XM1 Scout in .22 this morning about 8am. I've sighted it in at 30yds and have a spinner at that distance. for some reason I was hitting about 5-6inches to the right and about 3 inches low. Wow! What the heck? I couldn't believe it. So I was wondering what it was. I store my rifle leaning on the door trim, directly against the scope. It's mounted on Westhunter rings. I thought maybe leaning it against the moderator or top of the scope might have caused this, but when I think about it, It should move the POI higher. the weather was calm, almost no winds and except for differences in temps when I sighted it in and shot this morning, the POI shouldn't be that much. So I considered the moderator. (BUT I know I sighted it in with the moderator on, and it's a silent thunder ordinance moderator--I think it's quality mod??) Pulled the mod off and the barrel end piece came off with it. So I put the barrel end piece back on and tightened it down firmly. Smack-dead center where it should be. So I put the moderator back on and smack-dead center where it should be again! So what in the world would have caused this? I'm stumped. Surely the barrel/moderator combination is the culprit? Now I'm wondering if it was scope quality. Could it be a difference in temperature and having a cheap CenterPoint scope on it? I dunno but I'd love the have everyone's opinion. Thanks

The stoegers are supposed to have 2 hex screws at the beginning of the shroud, make sure those are there and that they are snug.

Really? Beginning of shroud meaning close to the receiver or barrel end? If receiver end, my shroud spun freely with the barrel end cap unscrewed. Thanks I'll look into that

I would check shroud is centered and fully tightened down at end of barrel. The shroud acts like a barrel tensioner. Mine came loose a few times. also don’t tighten down with mod attached. There is a cutout on threads , I used an Allen key and cranked down on it .
Yeah I'll have to look at all. that. Thanks much!

So I put a tiny smidge of blue thread locker on my barrel end cap and tightened it down. Was still about 1-2 inches off at 30 yards. I still wonder about the scope, but I doubt it. Got it mostly sighted back in on my spinners but will have to resight it this evening. I can't imagine how a barrel & shroud could get misaligned when the barrel goes right over a base and the barrel end cap essentially centers itself when screwing it on. Oh well, I'm fairly happy for now.
