Daystate Blackwolf owners discussion

Doing some more tuning, thought I'd report back. I finally bit the bullet and degassed to set my regulator down to 100 bar. Surprisingly, it still can push the 25.39 JTS .22s beyond 930 fps. I was previously doing this with 130 bar and then later 140 bar. I can't really explain it but I must be saving some air over the previous tune at least. This is all with the white spring, by the way.

I'm also pushing JTS 18.8 wadcutters at the same speed. For the 25.39 I'm using 17 on the power wheel. For the 18.8s I'm using 5 on the wheel. This range of ammo without changing the regulator is one reason why I'm doing all this testing.

I don't really know what's going on, honestly. I feel like degassing and trying out something like 90 bar to see where that puts me with both weights. I never would have expected the power to stay in this range at 100 bar.

Are you getting good groups at 50 yards

Nice. Saving air ? Maybe maybe not but how you are tuned is how I like to tune all my guns. Use only the reg pressure required to get the speed I want, no more. Running this way I have found guns shoot more consistently shot to shot. I just like that. Only thing you can run into is sometimes you can be over powering the valve and wasting air if the reg is a bit low for the spring/hammer power. Doesn’t sound like you are there as if you were the power wheel would have little effect in velocity.

Still a work in progress. I think I may never be satisfied, honestly, but that's a big part of the fun. I was getting groups under 1" at 50y with my previous tune shooting 25.39 JTS pellets.

It's extremely hard to find windless conditions at my home ranges. When wind is involved, I can't really tell too much about the tune.

It likes the Hades Monsters! 11 shots at 40yds. Blue Spring, Reg showing 115b, PW on minimum = 940FPS.

Some bore cleaning questions, relating to BoreSnakes.

1. Do I have to take the barrel off every time to use the BoreSnake, or is there a way to do it with the barrel on the rifle?

2. Will the brass bristles on the BoreSnake harm the breach o-ring? I have the Viper version.
I use a Patch Worm on my Ghost barrel every 200 pellets because it goes from 1 hole groups to 1” groups around 220 shots. I use a straw to get the line through the shroud. It also takes about 10 shots to get back to the original poi, after a cleaning.

Good info! Have you ever tried to lube your pellets?

Did a little test here the other day to see how the BW did from low to high.
Interestingly when notice on the chart when I had the regulator on 80bar(Lowest the BW can do) the low setting gave a slight higher velocity. And after increasing the Regpressure it starts even out and from here the difference from Low/high on the powerwheel increases as regpressure goes up. As I see it the most efficiently setting with 20gran H&N is around 140-145bar regpressure. The gun can go up to 180bar in regpressure but the gain is illgained.

I used the blue spring. I have tried all the other colors of springs, but they only decreased the power for no avail.

I wouldn't expect the blue spring to be used for .177. Are you tuning for maximum power?

I am tuning for max performance. Accuracy with no power means nothing. Power without accuracy means nothing. Performance is when power and accuracy goes hand in hand. Right now I am just exploring the capabillities the BW has and hasn`t. Blue spring so far does best shooting +20grain slugs. I have had 16grainers goes supersonic but accuracy wasn`t there. 24grainers won`t stabilize(which I had high hope on). 20grainers from either ZAN or H&N is the sweetspot. Maybe in future Daystate will make a rifling ratio that will take 24 grainers. Here a higher regpressure would make sence. With the right barrel a 24grain doing +50-55 ft/ibs as the BW has the platform to do it. Wonder if an even softer spring than the blue could increase velocity?.
