I just noticed STO offers big bore moderators. Has anyone tried them out? What did you mount them on and how did they do for you? Im looking to possibly try one on my 45 texan.
I sent them a message to see what they would recommend. Ill pick 1 up and compare it to my donnyfl variants. My experience with STO in .22 and .25 is amazing, I know the more flow the better. I’m sure if they made them for big bore, they work! Hopefully someone has tried one, but you might have to let us know!
They recommended the mus2 for my 45 texan. I placed my order this morning. We will see how it doesAfter reading this post I visited their site and was pleasantly surprised to see some experimental bIg-bore moderators for sale. I’m watching these with interest. I recall that they didn’t use to make moderators beyond .30 caliber.
The Donnys always look nice but we know the STO is actually quiet and lighter. Can’t wait for this big boy test!Almost the same size. Ill be testing these head to head in the next few days. Ill report back with what my ears think. Test gun will be 24" barrel 45 texan.

I dont disagree with you. I have it in my hands so ill be the test dummy for now. Hopefully they wouldn't sell a product that wont stand up to moderator big bore power levels. Im only running around 500 fpe so nothing crazy. Ill try to get out today to give it a true test and I will definitely report any good or bad findings. If it doesn't beat the ronin on sound levels, I will just stick with the ronin. The ronin has already proven itself with my 45/257, so there should be no surprises there.I'd considered trying one, but I am turned off by almost anything 3D printed for big bores. I refuse to be the tester of 3D printed inserts for big-bore moderators. Here's where Donny FL hold the advantage in my eyes.
Have you tried any other moderators on the bulldog to compare?Mus II on my Bulldog 357
Works well, not as quiet as my smaller bore but effective enough to shoot out back.
@Nealgl1985 500 FPE is powerful enough to where if that projectile clips the 3D printed insert I’d expect the internals to fail. I will be watching to read your results and conclusions.I dont disagree with you. I have it in my hands so I’ll be the test dummy for now. I don't have any other big bore or big bore moderators. Only have 2 other M18 moderators and they are .30 max.Have you tried any other moderators on the bulldog to compare?
It clips any material at 500fpe the internals fail.@Nealgl1985 500 FPE is powerful enough to where if that projectile clips the 3D printed insert I’d expect the internals to fail. I will be watching to read your results and conclusions.
Matter of fact I would want 3d printed material. It will break and not damage the pellet much. Metal would quite possibly cause a big shift in trajectory due to the damage to the pellet. It clips any material at 500fpe the internals fail.
