Today was my first visit to this range and I had a great time despite a few challenges we were able to overcome. Thank you to Jeff and Ryan for putting on a great 100Y practice match in preparation for the PAC next week. The weather conditions were great with temps in the mid 80’s and friendly winds hovering around 4-6 with occasional gusts to 11. The range was built on top of a gravel pit. From the range house down to the targets at 100y is a significant drop in elevation. The area between the two is a valley, which required some pretty tall wind flags.
The second challenge is shooting through rectangular openings in a wood wall between the benches and targets.
This was a major hurdle for me because even though my gun would shoot through the opening all I could see through my scope was a wooden wall. I was trying to use my one piece rest with my TALL Mora on top of it. That was a no-go and I was ready to pack it in and head 2.5 hours north back home. That is when Jeff and Ryan stepped in to help a poor guy in need. Ryan lended a Caldwell front bag and Jeff provided a loaner Protektor rear bag. I certainly appreciated their generosity to give me an opportunity to shoot. Problem being that I have not shot off of bags for at least 5 years and making transitions from bull to bull was more of a challenge than I anticipated. I was getting cramps and muscle spasms in my back trying to manipulate the POI. I felt like a fish out of water, totally out of my element. None the less, I had a great day at FSA. Thanks again guys and I look forward to seeing y’all next week at PAC.
