I thought Fox Squirrels were red , at least in Northern IL when i was a kid

Red squirrel up there but we call them by both names down here. Thinking yours are smaller. They are reddish tinted but colored more like a gray fox in some ways.

Reddish and larger , twice the weight in Northern IL

Not a lot of Fox squirrels in MN. You’ll find them but not nearly as much as grey squirrels. We folks in MN have to differentiate fox from red squirrels or aka pine squirrel. Red squirrels are not protected thus we can hunt them year round And they are abundant here.

Fox squirrels I’ve seen in SC are in mid state area. Harvested this one between Columbia SC and Augusta GA.

Update on this morning hunt, brought home 4 & lost one in a briar patch so I self imposed the 5 squirrel limit. Vet 1 25 compact.
