Moderator Adapter for Steyr’s LP50

I’ve been trying to find a part number for the new Steyr LP50 Action barrels (without ports) for some time. Emailed Steyr directly several times to different people with no response. Tried going through Krale, who contacted Steyr, who sent Krale a copy of the “latest” exploded parts diagram and parts list. Still has the same part number as the old barrel with ports. Very frustrating.

Contacted Sport Shooting Depot, a new Steyr distributor here in the US (Mich). He contacted Steyr who replied they could not sell him any parts because the LP50 Action was part of the “Adventure Line” and he was a “Match Line” dealer. Steyr told him that Edgun West was the “Adventure Line” dealer in the US. Problem with Edgun West is they want to sell complete pistols, and will not stock or order individual parts. 🤬

@Helmet: Could you possibly use your contacts to find the part numbers for both compact and standard barrels for the LP50 Action pistols?

Then my "rubber cord" approach is a little improved. From the factory the compensator holes are drilled to ø3mm a bit into the barrel wall, then the last ~0.5mm is drilled to ø2mm. That means there's a little shoulder at the bottom of the comp holes. Take a 3mm rubber cord and cut off three pieces of 4mm length. I used a ø13x3 o-ring. Put those ø3x4mm rubber pieces into each comp hole before you lay the cut-in-half ø6x13 rubber pieces across on top. Then fasten the rubber pieces with the Steyr Weaver rail or an other suitable device.

Tested it now and the only sound coming from the LP50 is the ping from the valve. 👍

NB! There is some force working against the set screw that holds these parts in place, so be sure the device holding this together can withstand the force.
If we ignore the fact that the pressure drops slightly as the pellet passes through the barrel, then the pressure that works against the screw that holds the parts in place is about 50 N for the standard LP50 and about 64 N for the RF version. For the HP version the force is about 100 N. These are not high numbers, but anyway, be sure what you use is strong enough.

Have to say the Steyr LP 50 RF (with some woodwork) covers a lot of my needs when it comes to plinking and target shooting.
Yes, there is a noticeable bark to it, but the silencer takes care of that.
The content in this gun case gives you the possibility to change between different pistol/rifle stocks, pistol/rifle scopes, a red dot, or simply the use of iron sights.

A bit disappointing that they don't respond to direct contact, but it may indicate that the associated user manual and parts list are not ready yet. I have always gotten a response back when I have contacted them directly in the past. I will try through a couple of acquaintances.
I got a response from Klara at Steyr:

thank you very much for your request.
Kindly be informed that the barrel of the LP 50 Action and LP 50 Standard are the same.
The barrel of the Action version is screwed. So it look like as if there are no ports inside.

These are the item numbers:
4005010001 – barrel LP 50 standard length
4005010009 – barrel LP 50 compact
I hope for your understanding.
Kind regards,

Klara Keferböck

I responded back to ask if it is possible to order the barrels with the screws installed.

The barrel part numbers are the same as used for many years. I have an exploded diagram with parts list from 2019 which has the same part numbers.

It is unclear if the barrels come with the ports threaded so all you have to do is install the proper set screw. If not I wouldn't want to take the chance on tapping it myself.

@Helmet: Does the ports of your LP50 barrel appear to be tapped?

@Gwelo: No, the ports are just drilled. The first 3mm are Ø3mm, the last 0.75mm are ø2mm.
A barrel with ports drilled and threaded to M3 will probably be the best solution. I hope that is what she tried to convey.

I made a new variant a couple of days ago. Ø6x10mm brass rod milled down to 3.5mm height, made a ø3x2mm hole on the round side, and then glued in 5mm long rubber piece from a ø3mm rubber cord. I'll probably mill a ø5x1mm pocket on the flat side to guide the fixing screws better. And mill the clamps down about 1.5mm and use a little shorter set screws.
