Classified Purchases, PayPal FF vs Goods??

Hello All,
I have a question about buying from the classifieds. I see most sellers say PayPal Friends/Family preferred.
I'm wondering why the seller wouldn't send an invoice via PayPal which the buyer would then pay treated as "Goods/Services" which includes all the buyer protections a typical PayPal purchase would have.
Edit: My PayPal account issued a card with 0% APR. When I checked with PayPal they said it only applies to Goods/Services not F/F. That's the motivation for asking not any worry about being ripped off.
I guess better to just lay cash and be fine with it. I just normally like interest free deals is all.

Thanks and apologies for the original question, was misleading to my intention.

PayPal doesn't cover guns.

And eventually PayPal and others will be submitting 1099s to the Fed and you'll be paying capital gains on your sales over $600 for the year. Now - do you want me to pass that 20% capital gains tax onto you, the buyer, because I am certainly not going to absorb that as part of my sales price.

My take is this : if you don't feel comfortable dealing with me..........great...........move on . This is a hobby to me , not a business. I don't want to , nor will I incur additional expenses including accounting and documentation for items sold here. Fine , you want protection , good for you , buy new from an online retailer and pay list price while using your credit card to protect you from us "villains" !

Villains? I think you read too much into my comment. I think I'd trust 99% of the guys here with sending cash.
To be honest, the reason I even was thinking about it is my PayPal account issued a card that has 0% interest for 15 months but it only applies to goods/services not via F/F.
When I questioned PayPal about it that's the reason they gave me. Nothing more. No distrust at all just was curious and nothing more.
I hope that cleared it up. I had no intention of implying I needed protection although looking back at it it does read that way. Sorry I didn't give the back story for clarity.

IF i was paranoid about buying or selling on here (AGN) i just would not deal here , 95 percent of my deals are F2F at the shows . But if an item is exactly what i want then i will drive and do F2F . I am retired so a 1000 mile drive and motels means nothing to me .

Getting money from friends and family is income subject to taxation as well

Zero protection for sellers with goods and services.
Buyer claims it never got there and PayPal reimburses the buyer (whether it did or not) leaving the seller without the merchandise, AND without the money. And buyer has a new airgun, for free.

I only buy used from the 2 main forum classifieds. If you do your research on the seller you will be fine to use F&F.
I ain't trying to get someone jammed up with paying taxes n junk. If they jam me up.. I'll be sure to spread the word... it ain't happened yet.
F&F is just the same as sending cash n the mail. You’re fulling trusting the seller to be legit and honorable, no recourse if otherwise.
Hello All .. I edited to original post to clarify. Seems I came off as completely mistrusting, not the case at all. Was just trying to see if I could take advantage of a PayPal promo.

Apologies guys ....

When buying through the forum classifieds I always ask the seller if they will accept Goods and Service if I pay the fees.
In my experience the split ihas been about 50-50
And if the seller declines, I usually have done enough vetting to feel OK with that.
The reason I prefer Goods & Services is for the protection.
Not because I perceive sellers as villains
The protection covers against UPS/FEDEX/UPS errors as well as against the overly curious and the 5 fingered interlopers the package can run into along the route.

Hope you are well, Herb

The best way to vet a seller is to read their posts . It always amazes me to see an ad for a particular air gun that the seller claims "the best air gun I've ever owned , really difficult to let this one go"...........................then read the posts where they couldn't get the velocity stable , or the magazine wouldn't feed properly, these are the sellers that you don't walk away from..............you run. If the seller has lots of feedback , it's a good sign . Actions leave tales... .

Just a little devils advocate. I’m all for F&F as I don’t like paying extra fees…who does ? However, PayPal is providing a service and if never reimbursed for said services will cease to exist. Let’s not kid ourselves that they offer the seller nothing as that isn’t true. They allow the seller a way to accept credit card payments immediately…bingo. That opens up your sales possibilities a lot. Now people that cannot even afford your goods can get you the money for them. 👍
