why the prohibition on moderator discussion?

Honest question! The language is clear and I will abide by the rules, but I'm curious why? Not trying to cause trouble at all, just want to understand.

The rules state: The discussion of the creation, fabrication, or modification of airgun moderators is prohibited. The discussion of any "adapters" used to convert an airgun moderator to a firearm silencer will result in immediate termination of the account.*

The second part I completely understand! Why the first part?

It is a legalities thang. Short and sweet. I've been there and done that. You don't want to have the AN admins/mods descend upon you. Trust me.

I took abide the rules and I too understand that last part.. I saw that they made a post that they made changes to allow discussion on comparing moderator because before, the word was basically banned according to my understanding..
if you find out why not discussion is allowed about airgun only moderator let me know..
I'm only commenting on this because several good old members who were friends have left the forum over this..
I also have just thought that they provide the forum so they get to make the rules..I don't know..
I had one member mentioned the yellow forum but I don't have any clue what that is..
most of my other friends who left went to gateway to Airguns and suggested I'd be a better fit there because I actually do free machine work modifying Airguns.. I'm not really into moderator so it wasn't a big deal, just loosing contact with friends,I should have PM them a long time ago and got actual email and phone number.. but I always thought they would be here..
another thing is that I'm not good with computer and barely navigating this forum so do I really want to add another one? not exactly..
I will tell you from my experience here that the people who run the site, you'll see like moderator 1 or 3 or Michael is a really good one but all the guys have been very good to me and helped me out a lot.. so in spite of the moderator's no moderator discussion this is a very good site

It's a bummer, because some of us really enjoy the theory and experimentation in machining. 1 goober did something really stupid and got some people and places on radar they shouldnt and don't want to be on.

Long story, short. Airgun moderator is not well-defined by case law. The laws and federal rules as written only cover gun powder moderators. Violating those Powder Burner rules can get you into very, very bad legal jeopardy.

Airgun moderator is a different beast, but it is not specifically called out in any kind of manner by the federal laws, and being undefined means being at risk of getting defined poorly or incorrectly by people who know nothing about Airguns. AGN staff does not want to help the adversarial powers by entertaining in depth conversation that could be used against our common interest.

AGN cannot be a host to any part of a "gray area" discussion for AGN"s protection and for our members' protection.

There have been many posts locked down or removed entirely because the "give an inch and they will take a mile" phenomenon.

You are always welcome to PM any staff member if you want to double check the rules before you post publicly.

yes definitely.. that for gun shops not hobby stuff.. and honestly I've seen discussions go off the rails and need to be stopped..

Point of order, this thread is about HOW the forum works, rather than about Airguns specifically. The forum structure is pretty mature and well developed.

I really like your explanation.. don't need any reason.. just because I said so.. after all we are fortunate to have this site and it doesn't cost to use it, so yes I'm thankful for the site and all the hard working moderation that keeps it good.

as far as that goes whomever owns the site and runs it, it's totally up to them.. they could say no talking about BB guns and it's their choice.. I kinda feel like we all should say thank you for the site.. because we are basically freeloaders on here with the privilege of using the site..
hopefully that doesn't offend anyone but honestly although I have friends who I have lost contact with because I didn't think to get contact information.. stupid me.. and they moved on.. but that's life..
I am very thankful for this site, and moderator 3 and Michael another great moderator..
