Head shot thread

Im at my table skinning the squirrel i popped raiding my far feeder. A bigger squirrel raids my near feeder. 12.6y away.... like a bofors 40 hitting an infantryman
These slugs are hitting like boulders at 100mph, dumping 100% this 30gr slug at 978.9 didnt pass through. It was stopped right under the skin where im pointing.

That is awesome, dumped it all. Can't believe it didn't pass through but they are tough critters and that thing expanded completely!

I totally expected to find half its head gone
when I flipped it
Shocked. Its skull was totally pulvurized and looked kinda like a baby that slept on its soft spot.lol

Shots that would take the backside of a rabbits head off may totally crush the inside of a squirrel but the tough skin, ligaments, tendons of the squirrel hold it together. This headshot on a squirrel was with the 30 cal was 90yards but still over 90fpe when it hit him and still held together pretty damn good https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...ck-squirrel-another-one-for-the-stew.1316079/

Bro I’m with you 100%… I shoot 31&32gr Franco’s out of my barra 250z at 970-980fps… the expansion and energy dump is perfection.

I messaged him . He was waiting on his supplier he's supposed to get back to me soon. Those prices are great. I do need to change to .22 now .25 is on the backburner until I get another 700mm housing and high flow tp

Well now that I got the right sized ammo this EQ is really purring. The Varmintknockers .303 and .306 knurled slugs work well. The .306s just go about 10fps slower.

86 yards
62gr .306 Varmintknockers @920fps

Yes! I see you have posted many replies but no photos of your own hunts! Glad you are posting again! 🤗
Yessir! I figured I'd probably have peta called on me if I posted the hundreds of baby iguanas I've slain lol. I keep getting new jobs, but nothing with big enough iguanas lol.

I took a headshot today on a bunny at only 8y away, using 10.03gr JSB KO Mk3 slug @980fps. The result shocked even me. I would not take a picture of it. It took me a few seconds to understand what I was looking at when I retreived it. The bunny had been looking away from me, and I put the .177 slug right into the back of his head. It literally blew the top of his head off, right down to the tip of his nose. I did not think an airgun slug could do that kind of damage. It looked like I had used a .17HMR. WOW! At least it never knew what hit him. We've got way too many.

That is one humane shot! Great shot at such a close distance 👍.

That's the way to do it!

We are now shooting slugs / snails, as we have a pest one of those actually named the killer snail, the problem is them in full adult size is about 1/2" and 2-3 " long, and when hit even with a regular domed .177 pellet, you get a big splash and quite a bit of it go away. 3 Shots and it is for sure all gone, but very little left after just 2 shots, not least when you shoot from 24 - 30 M distance.

Also,,,,, which end is the head end ?
Just kidding you can most often see their feelers / tentacles on the head end even in a digital scope.

You're not kidding! The close shots, under about 12y, are the ones I screw up the most. This time, I used my range finder and Strelok. Here is the part I left out, and probably the reason I posted in the first place, this little rabbit did the biggest and most energetic death dance than just about any kill that I have made on anything. And it lasted for a while! When I finally walked over I was expecting to see a grazing shot, instead I was trying to figure out what I was looking at because all of the normal stuff was gone.

I am really relieved that this happened this way. I had to put down my pet several years ago and I didn't take any chances with that, a firearm, barrel touching, right on the back of the head, and I got a huge death dance out of that too, that bothered me until yesterday. I thought that maybe somehow I missed the brain. After seeing the aerobatics that this bunny did with absolutely no brain left, I can finally let that incident go.
