I ask because I have weighted late model Hw95K 22 barrel from a HW95 field pro I bought a couple years ago. Depending on the gun the barrel makes about 1-1.5 fpe less than it should for reasons unknown to me. That's on any gun I put it on, so there's definitely something up with this barrel. The barrel is still very accurate on any rifle I put it on. It doesn't seem to hurt the rifles shot cycle at all. It just annoys me that its not making full power. I don't need it for pesting should I just get over it and use it? What would you do with it?

Max power and springer don't go together relating to springers in my thought process. But a smooth shot cycle is a joy. My LGU feels like a needle going through warm butter.So to answer your question, get over it.

You just need to balance for what you need/want. For me, shot cycle was/is more important. I tuned my HW50 to about 10fpe. It's a pleasure to shoot and accurate out to 55 yards for FT. My full size underlevers (HW77, HW97, AA TX200 MkIII) I tuned to 11-12fpe mostly for shot cycle. I feel like it made them easier to shoot accurately.

I do like a rifle that produces some down range power but if it feels like I’m shooting a 12 ga . It needs a tune. I have an R9 that originally put out close to 17 fpe , had a bad twang and buzz. And was a little harsh. I promptly put some macarri internals , clipped a coil from the mainspring, made up some guides and now shoots great at 14FPE.

I've always gotten better accuracy by de-tuning my guns from factory specs, and they are more enjoyable to shoot that way too. 12fpe or less for hw97k, pro sport, hw95, and 10-10.5fpe for my hw50s. The only exception to this rule has been my R7/hw30s, which have always been very accurate at factory power of about 7fpe. For hunting, the emphasis on power is often misplaced IMHO. Accuracy is more important, and 10fpe is plenty for small game out to 35yds if the shot is on target.

it should not bother you; get over it.that is my opinion,shot cycle is more important,I have powerful springers I grab when needed ,but for everyday fun I grab my kitted mellow cycle springers.

I will get this out of the way, I don't like springers because I haven't had a high end one.
That said, shot cycle because if its nice to shoot it will usually stay out of its own way for accuracy. "Max power" has become the realm of the pcp now anyhow so I'd focus on making a springer a really enjoyable thing to shoot for long periods and something beautiful to look at. If this means projectile choice, whatever groups best.

It's hard to feel any love for a crappy gun of any variety. At best they're functional and utilitarian.
I don't think the pursuit of power should be confined to PCP's though. You can apply the same logic to powerful PCP's and say, "why not just get a powderburner?" From a cost/performance standpoint they make way more sense, but you get a big bore PCP because you want power and something about shooting things with air appeals to you. It's the same thing with powerful springers. Sure a PCP could do it better, but there's just something about a spring piston gun that appeals to a lot of us. I'd personally love to see some company come out with a 40+ fpe springer even if a PCP can easily achieve the same power. A 9mm, 50 fpe springer that kicks like a mule would still be super cool and I'd buy it as soon as I had the funds available.

Everybody seems to enjoy a HW30 for casual plinking; me too. When target shooting I want my smooth springers.

Shot cycle and accuracy with slugs to at least 300 meters so need to be somewhat powerfull but not a canon

You kinda nailed the pb thing. My 22 pcp is 75 fpe and it's too dangerous to enjoy the airgun parts of it other than I can suppress it and use lead ammo to hunt in California. I'm not into big bore pcps either.
If say a springer power plant that could achieve 18fpe in 177 and had nice fit and finish and nice woodwork IS something that interests me. My problem is I've gotten each niche filled for the most part with my pcp gun collection and pumpers at this point..... Which means my choice of springer would have to be on the extreme high end I think(and I don't mind that idea) especially if I could run diopter sights. Underlever intruigs me and 177 paper punching with a springer intruigs me.

I threw together my 177 r1 from spare parts to put it up for sale. It was making 20-21 fpe in 177 for a short stint. It was surprisingly accurate for pushing lead pellets close to the speed of sound. I'd never believe it possible if it didn't happen to me. For whatever reason it didn't last. And no the gun wasn't dieseling. The power dropped off to 19 fpe and the groups opened up. I became frustrated and put the gun aside.
I forgot what it's current caliber and guts are. I never really liked the rifle. It's a tank. I've run it in 177, 20 and 22. The smaller the caliber the harsher the shot cycle. I liked the gun best in 22. The problem with running it sprung so tight is it's rough on scopes. High power springers are neat in concept but come with complications.
