HW/Weihrauch THEOBEN HW/90 ADJUSTABLE GAS RAM

OV, I have all four calibers of the 90. Never took one apart. But an absolute gem of a rifle. I’ve spent no time with the .177 or the .22.
The .25 was the first Weihrauch I ever bought. Never hated a gun so much. Sat on wall for 2 yrs. just as a reminder. Then read an article here by Jayjay. I bought the .20 and pump and gauge.
‘The .25 turned down to 18 bar, made it do a 180. You would never believe it’s the same rifle. The .20 is one for my most accurate. Lucky to have this one.
I’ve never gone below 18 bar but plan to when I have a full day of shooting. It would be easier to Jack.
They make unique sounds when jacking. I think this is Weihrauch’s prize. Crow

I have always wanted to shoot / play with tuning one but didn't want to buy just out of curiosity .

I was looking at a new .20 caliber HW90 for $840 with the adjustable gas ram. I wanted to know if anyone has ever tuned this down for as little recoil as possible , and used a lighter pellet to keep up the speed , and accuracy?
You simply remove the screw in the back, exposing the schrader valve. You tap on it ever so slightly to lessen the power. When you are finished with the chrony work, put the screw back into place.
However, you'll need a brocock pump or similar to bring the power back up. I've shot these guns at full power, and their accuracy is great. Recoil at full power isn't for everyone, but the accuracy is there.

That looks like a great solution. I would use a much better and accurate gauge on my hand pump it going this route.
Although the old pumps ( Theoben) didn’t even come with a gauge on them.

Can you control the lower pressure using a pcp hand pump,? Sounds like a challenge and why a shock pump is used ,( A 500 not 300 psi pump) rams about 25bar / 360 psi max outside the hw high $$$ . Lol.

I guess it can be done if you hold ya mouth right

Excellent point. The gauges on my two pcp pumps are not geared to read lower pressures accurately, so would need swapped out for a 500-600 psi gauge like in the link at bottom. Then I suppose it would be a matter of just using short strokes on the pump. Sound good in theory. LOL

Maybe .. all a guy can do is try and see . I'm not a pcp guy so ??

The only reason I won't buy HW90 it over price and under power. I have wrote to Weihrauch that they need to improve HW90 with a bigger swept area 33mm x 120mm and reduce its harsh recoil. Hey I own a few HW guns. I enjoy shooting my Gamo Hunter Extreme .25
The only improvement hw would do is discontinue the standard original and make a walnutts or anniversary edition that cost 300$ more then the one they discontinued. Lol

I got the pump as well, both a few years ago. Pricey, but not near that price. Again I did on trade, not near as painful. Crow.
I got to think . That kinda money for what real use ? Once in a blue moon to tinker ? Not like your dragging it out everytime you go shoot unless it's leaking and needs airing up every time..lol

If it was someone’s only rifle. It would be a fantastic choice IMO due to the fact flexibility is so easy, but at a cost. I’ve never had one apart. Not sure. Mine haven’t leaked at all. I find it to be a very unique gun. One spin around the dial. Crow

Years ago i looked at one but just drew away from it and stayed spring .
Also did not look at cheaper alternatives ( pump gauge, fittings ) i may of been swayed .. no telling

Then later on in life the hatsan rams let down keeps me at spring today ..lol. Gamo gas been going 7 years but no tuning on that ram .

Anyways just ended up not being a gun for me in my usages. That hw95 just works out too good for my all around utility gun ..

I think companies missed the boat with gas ram's . I would have thought ( let say HW ) the company would have come out with a choice in a few rifles , like an HW50 in gas or spring . Maybe HW30 gas or spring . no adjustments just the same gun in gas or spring . What about a starter HW30 adjustable ram start your kid @ 4 FPE then 6 FPE then 10 FPE ?
