Justin welcome to the club. I see no one suggested a Scope so let me suggest your looking at Leapers Scopes (UTG) products. All the usual 30mm or 1" tubes with all types of reticules plus Red-Green battery powered feature. Well I would like to suggest a Sight Mark Wraith Model SM18021; Wraith HD 2-16 x 28mm Day or night. Electric Infared Red (IR) for at night. I have had mine for 3 years now and it is amazing. The software is unbelieable and you can put your hunt on an SD card. I think they are still $500.00 with the base attached. The nice thing it is always ready when needed. No waiting for daylight just push a button (3 levels of power ) and it is daylight. Good luck.

I would find that an Umarex Gauntlet 2 get the SL22 You can generally find them on Amazon for ~400$, get a compressor (avoid a hand pump for frustration's sake), I got a ToAuto 4500psi for $180, get a couple of extra magazines on amazon for $12 each, but personally I'd go on eBay and look up QD Fox and get his aftermarket mags (they are better and tougher), then get a Gamo Combo Pack of 22 pellets (1000 count) for ~$18, Get a scope and rings, I'd recommend Discovery Opt 2-12x, look for a review on youtube and you can find a 10% discount code from their website.

if you're just out to kill pests at night (Rats other small critters) my suggestion would be, these are New not used and in your budget.
Umarex Zelos .22 or .25, Cheap Pinty scope on Amazon 3-9x40 AO, Night vision scope add on One Leaf commander NV100, or Pard NV007V

The .22 version of this rifle is 6xx. Did the price go up since it was posted?

Yes they were on sale while in stock, somebody jumped on it and now the original price is listed. AirForce has several cheap rifles listed in the Outlet Store. Like a regular 22Cal Condor for $413 or a regular Series D 177Cal Condor for $395. These dont have a shroud though so you would have to buy an adapter to run a moderator if you decided to do so. They will be loud without a shroud or moderator. I think Talon Air still has some Condor specific shrouds/moderators for sale.

Thanks for the link. What adapter would be needed for a moderator? Sorry I’m new to this.

Depends on what moderator you wanted to run, and which rifle configuration you choose. If you were going to use say a DonnyFL Yokozuna on a full length Condor, you would need either the DonnyFL adapter that slips over the muzzle of the longer barrels; or the AirForce FATS adapter. And the other option would be to use something like the Talon Airguns custom moderator/shroud that just installs, no adapter needed.

The AirForce rifles use 3 different barrel lengths and I think 3 different frame lengths. The SS versions have baffled shrouds that dont really need a moderator, but you can add one if you wanted. The normal long barrel versions are not shrouded and would be pretty loud stock.

Got it, I think… Lots of good info, thank you. I’ll checkout some of those rifles and their configurations. Thanks again.

Umarex Zelos or Notos
Reximex Throne 2, Accura or Daystar
Niksan Ozark, Ozark-W or Ozark-TW

All will do your pesting.
Cost wise Ozark at $350
Up to Throne 2 at ~$800.

The killer will be a night vision scope.
Good one costs as much or more than the gun.

Alternative is several solar powered motion sensing lights. Rats probably are too small but raccoons will turn them on and my experience is the light does not affect them.

Hi Stan,

Mainly Pest Control, We have a dwindling flock of egg laying chickens and i'm tired of feeding vermon and setting traps. I just want to get a quiet set up that is very accurate. As I will be shooting at night, i'd like something with a day/night scope or thermal, but I understand that will be more expensive. I'm flexible on the price with a scope and extras
I had this exact motivation and wow has it opened up a new world for me. I knew nothing and had a tight budget. I did allot of research and ended up getting an Air Venturi Avenger Bullpup 2 (25 cal). I prefer the Bullpup but regular is great too.
I LOVE this rifle especially for the money. Regulator and Hammer Spring adjustable. At 40 yards I can practically stack the pellets. Most importantly using JSB 25.39 gr head shot drops raccoons.
Other:
PCP Compressor from an overstock app(Macbid). I actually have 3 of them most I paid was $40 ($200 retail)
Chrono - $30 Amazon Chrono recommended from guys here has been great.
CVLife AO Scope $100. I worried a little being cheap here but it's been dead on so far.
One tip about raccoons. They have awful red/green vision. Light up your bait/kill zone with a Red LED bulb. It won't deter at all. Then I use low brightness green illuminated reticle for perfect contrast and lights out shot.

One more thing. At only a few months old the regulator did fail. My retailer referred me to Air Venturi. They were absolutely awesome. Tech talked me thru diagnosis. They offered to send a new reg to do myself or I could send it in. Being so new, I sent it in.

I really must admit, I got a bit of a bug now. I would love to pick up another one. Next, maybe something modular but for now I'm really enjoying this one.

Good Luck to you from PA

Hello. And welcome, this place is a great place to learn. One thing I learned here is the rabbit hole.
This is where all your money goes. I'll tell you about the setup I ended up with. First my compressor a Tuxing TXED012 from Walmart. This compressor will fill my 6.8l tank , and fill my Zelos .22 cal in a few minutes. You can get an Allstate protection plan for the compress as well ( highly recommend). This compressor will last for years if take care of. I use Seco lube 500 oil. This twin cylinder is big , water-cooled, and air cooled , and hands down beats any little metal box compressor. The Zelos in .22 cal is very accurate, and the stock mag holds 20 rounds. I shoot 28 grain HP SLUGS at 860 fps average which is 46 ft lbs of energy , and with a well placed shot will take medium game. You see the Zelos has a 26" barrel ,but it's a bull pup , so only 36" long. It has an adjustable regulator, so you can tune it to different slugs , or pellets instead of having to find one that works.
There is now an after market mag that hols 36 rounds 18 each side that works great. Happy Shooting OldVet.

Contrary to popular opinion around here you do not have to spend large amounts of money to get a very good rifle, as your experience shows. Plenty of sub-500 and sub-1000 rifles like the Avenger that are more than adequate for the job.

I have led flashlights on my rifles and the raccoons, when I had them, would just look right into the flashlight, quite often raise up on their hind legs. I would just take a good center body shot and they would drop and move less than 10 feet. Using my AirForce .25 Condor or Niksan .25 Ozark-TW. The Condor, due to modification, was extremely effective.

Many long-time airgun users have gone through phases of interest and acquisition over the years. Airguns I enjoyed 40 years ago when the selections were limited aren't what I prefer now in later life. These days I prefer compact (~32 inches), lightweight (~6lbs), repeating (magazine fed, manual cycling or semiauto) PCP airguns, though I still keep a nice gas-piston break barrel rifle around for old time's sake.

I've only had One Airforce airgun, a Talon SS. I think that most or all of the Airforce rifles have a similar single-shot loading process. I personally found it to be slow and inconvenient to reload due to the rather narrow access to the loading port (for my hands, I weigh 150lbs). That is the reason I sold it.

If you just plan to do some lightweight pest control you don't need a heavy (over 7lb in my book) or long rifle to do it, and don't get too caught up in chasing the guns with the highest shot power specs unless you get a good deal on a used. Even a Huben GK1 pistol with a folding butt stock and good sight can take a good shot out beyond 40 yards though you'd probably be lucky to find a good used one under $900. It's possible to refill a small HPA cylinder (<85CC or so) with a hand pump if you are physically able to and only shoot a few magazines at a time.

Break barrel pellet rifles can be decent hunters at modest ranges and are undervalued n the resale market. I had over a dozen barely used break barrel rifles 2 years ago and gave most of them away because I could not sell them, even at 25% or less than their original purchase price the year before.

So many choices if it turns out to be a hobby. If all a person wants is one or two moderately priced airguns for occasional pest control it'll be easier and less expensive for you than the kind of money some of us have spent on many dozens of airguns over the years.

Somewhat surprisingly, the laser sight in front of the scope is not visible in the scope's image.

I could not come close to justifying the cost of a night vision scope, so I just did this.

Lights up my chicken pen area just fine, especially if the trash bandit look in my direction. Two nice bright orbs to aim between.

I completely agree. As I mentioned in my post, Raccoons have awful color vision. Worst being red/green which appears muddy to them.
I got a couple red LED lightbulbs and painted the entire area. They showed no hesitation or reserved behaviors at all.
My scope is a $100 Cvlife. It has A.O. and illuminated. So far I love it. Using the lowest brightness on green illumination with the red bait/kill zone, the contrast gives me a perfect picture to place the dot and send it.
I also keep an LED flashlight with a red balloon over it and of course regular lights to spook out if needed. Cameras around can blast light and sound if needed.
Anyway, sorry to repeat myself a bit. I lost track where I was going. Just to fall back to the OP; I'm still green without the experience to give much advice. All I can say is what I did. I am beyond thrilled with this Avenger Bullpup. Very happy I went with 25 caliber, and so far think I made a great move with the discounted compressor. My scope only time will tell. Right now it's great. Air Venturi was super fast to reply to my issue. Friendly and knowledgeable. Had me on the path to repair right away.

Good Luck. Those Reactions are TOUGH little monsters. Head by far the best. One thing to really keep in mind. When that head shot impacts, they almost always go into a massive uncontrolled gymnastics routine. Most of the time dead but some no. Slow approach and finish it.

I'm curious to see what direction you go. I'm really enjoying your thread. Such a load of knowledge.
