...someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the HW50 "V" was the improved model in that the barrel was rifled, the very first having been smooth bore.
The smooth bore was because in the immediate post war period rifled barrels were too accurate, and so too similar a really frightening gadget like an MG42?
So I'm not sure if the HW50V was really the first?

You are mistaken, smoothbore barrels were produced before the war in the late 1930s. Zenith, Diana, CZ and even IZH installed smoothbore barrels in parallel with rifled ones on the same models. Most likely, this was due to the cost of production, everyone could choose a barrel according to their budget.

True, but that's because in some nations rifled barrels were not permitted. In occupied Germany the rifling was forbidden for potential military use reasons.

Gez - Gesetzlich Geschützt or ges gesch -legally protected. This is a patent stamp of the 3rd Reich (not used after the war) and has nothing to do with rifled barrels.

Id rather have one standard stock at a lower price i can go enjoy everyday shooting then silly inflated anniversary or special edition. / pedestal gun..lol

I would like a natural wood laminate stock , maybe rose wood and Walnut . but that might be heavy weight wise ? light and dark walnut ?

75 years places the HW 50's initial production at 1950, which is correct. I don't know what the original "V" stood for, but not sure it matters...as an HW collector, I can tell ya they change model designations at the drop of a hat, and re-use them to mean different things, etc.
The HW 50 of the 1950's shares nothing with today's gun anyhow, beyond the name and overall size.

"1953 Weihrauch was also building the HW35 (in 4.5mm and 5.5mm) and the HW55 (4.5mm only) alongside a sporting version of the HW50V, the HW50S. The "first series" of HWs had a seagull symbol stamped into the left side of the breech block and short trigger blocks. V
So some kinda sporting models?
Could be just trigger or sight difference between the 2 ?

I am now reliably informed (thanks specie!) that "V" stands for the German word for "improved." So it may very well signify the switch from smoothbore to rifled barrels. IIRC the occupying Allies did forbid rifled barrels for some years.
I have a 1959 HW brochure in which the "V" is gone. But "M" denotes an HW 50 with an adjustable trigger, "S" adds a grooved receiver, and "SD" adds a match sight (per my point re: shifting designations above...M and S came to mean different things in later years). A note at the bottom of the page describes an optional upgrade stock with checkered grip and buttplate. In this brochure, the HW 35 and 55 had the then-new Rekord, but apparently not yet the HW 50.

On that note if I can't find this blue 50. I'm open for a modern 177 Hw50 trade for my R8. The 50 has to be near perfect and not have a lazer etched comp tube. PM me if you're interested.
