Dust Cover fo FX DRS Probe

I was concerned about my fill probe getting dirty sitting exposed while target practicing, so I designed a 3D dust cover. It fits loosely over the O-ring section but is a snug fit on the metal closest to the whip. I only had to print 3 before i got the dimensions correct, not bad for a rookie. I uploaded a file to thingiverse so anyone can print it. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7112912

If you put it on thingiverse careful how you label it. I might use "xyz mm fill probe dust cover."

Well done!

I was looking for one but didn’t like the design or price on a piece of plastic with a hole in it. It was pretty simple, just needed a little trial and error to get the sizing right, a tenth of a millimeter makes all the difference. It’s a 6.6mm hole for the 1st 26mm and 6.1mm for the bottom part.

I printed a 3D plug that I leave in the port until I’m ready to refill. With the Tactical you can fill from either side, so I just push the plug out with the probe.
That seems similar to some of the plugs that I have had for other guns, recommended for hunting and such service.

What advantage do you find to removing the probe and plugging the fill port bore, versus leaving the probe in place and capping it?

There's always something to be learned by asking these questions, IME.

For me, I’d rather not be disconnecting and reconnecting the probe with the quick connect, it’s always attached to the whip and ready when I need it. The plug provides a more finished look on my gun, almost invisible unless you’re looking for it. I don’t think there’s an advantage either way, just my preference.

Thanks.

The difference in our usages may only be that I typically shoot 4 or 5 guns at the range, so the probes need to be separated and connected to the compressor's Foster for each gun.

I leave my probes in the guns, and use plastic or rubber line caps. FWIWView attachment 584533 View attachment 584534

Does anyone else hate the tiny DRS probe?
Nah, the DRS probe is ok for me. It's similar to the Weihrauch HW100/HW110/HW44 probe that I'm used to.

If you want to see a really bulky, awkward and bizarre fill system, check out the one for the Air Arms S510...

I have an AA S510 Extra. The fill adapter is trouble because it's always leaking and needs to be repositioned. I substituted slightly thicker O rings but only a partial solution. Beautiful rifle, great accuracy but it's my least favorite gun. Magazines go in from the wrong side, hate the Rube Goldberg automatic magazine advance (I helped with design of a regular, clock-spring-type magazine to replace it); flimsy magazine retainer leaf spring; if the magazine is timed and tipped to the side, the idexed pellet falls out. If the magazine isn't timed and inserted, it won't index; and more. I will likely end up selling it as it is the last rifle I take from the rack. <rant, rant?

I hear you and agree fully.

The S510 is beautiful and accurate but it's an old 12 fpe design (based on their 400 bolt action) that has been upgraded with some weird cludges. In addition to what you point out, the transfer port power adjuster leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm one to keep my equipment, but like you, my S510 Extra would be the first to go.

Cheers!
