Crosman Breath New Life into Crosman 2240

Hello,
I have had this Crosman 2240 collecting dust and I was thinking about a project to upgrade it. I still want to keep it as a CO2 powered pistol, but I was thinking about adding a new receiver that would accommodate a barrel shroud. I'm hoping I can make it a little quieter for shooting in my shop. There are not a lot of options for high breeches, and they are also quite expensive. Do people have any suggestions? I have some machinist friends. Are there CAD files around that one could acces?

Thanks!

You are correct... there arent a lot of options for high breeches. Which is why years ago, I bought or traded for a spacer with the cocking pin, etc, etc cut out already. Be easier to make than a breech. Fits right over the 2240 tube. Will need a steel breech though, some longer screws, and ice maker tubing for the transfer.

How far are you willing to go? If quiet is the goal there's other ways, but i totally understand wanting a project. Sticking with co2, but does it have to be powerlets 😁 you could put a bulk fill cap on it and a boss valve and use a paintball Asa adapter and use 12 or 16 Oz (even smaller or larger if you like) co2 cylinder. The main tube ends up being a plenum. If you want to run hpa down the road at 850 psi you can and make a small gain in power.

Great project choice! The 2240 is perfect for tinkering. For a DIY shroud, check out the ‘Crosman 2240 Modders’ group on Facebook - they often share CAD files for 3D-printed or machined parts. If you want metal, a simple ‘LDC adapter’ (like from TKO or Buck Rail) screws onto the barrel and accepts standard suppressors.

Since you have machinist friends, consider making an extended breech from aluminum tubing (ID ~0.5”) to fit over the barrel. Add threaded ends for a shroud. The 2240’s modular design makes this easier than most CO₂ guns. For noise reduction, even a basic shroud with internal baffles cuts the ‘crack’ significantly.

Keep the original parts - some ranges require unmodified 2240s for competition. Have fun, and post pics of your build!

These are great suggestions. This will be a fall/winter project for sure. If you all are still checking this thread at that point, I'll share some photos.

a shroud should be in the 1 inch OD most in the past were and the should itself with the right tools is easy rear cap barrel end support and an end cap
the space between the barrel and tube are very small a 7/16 ID to 1/2 OD tube will barely fit
now were back to the breech and that is the key
you are late to the 2240 party most of the small vendors have died or disappeared
Alliance Hobby is the only big player anymore

but the problem is the breech it has to be raised and there are none that i know of now
there had been some on Ebay from over seas ate very high prices but they came a went
you would want something like this, this one is in my herd
