FX FX Impact - 1st stage regulator to delete or not - my study.

copy that.
I went thru 1 first stage piston and 2 second stage pistons and even re facing them on 4000 grit plastic specific abrasives. I had to have near perfect consistency for my zulus optic to calculate it repeatedly... The humas did what I needed. 175 first stage 141.1 second stage gets me 55-75 fpe on the power wheel with a tungsten hammer for a 700mm 22. Around 9 maximum fps spread.

A little reg creep should never be a concern. Be it having one reg or two. If it is, then your gun/tune is walking too fine of a line. Which leads to head scratching and frustration. Now having too much reg creep and being the type of guy who launches a long bomb cold shot at an animal can be a problem that has to be addressed. One reg or two.

I've not deleted the 1st stage per sey but I have opened it way up as far as it will go and used the gun. I didn't see much difference. If you shoot pellets at low reg pressure I guess the first stage "might" help the longevity of the second stage, but there's an awful lot of guns with only one reg working just fine so I dunno. I turned my Wilcat 1st stage to 150 bar and just leave it there. Theoretically if the 1st stage creeps it shouldn't make much difference, as long as it's not just leaking thru.

I know, that's why I keep working on this impact and keep improving it. 1st reg was giving me all kind of issues, I rebuilt it twice and still.
I will run without it, so far so good, I shot about tin full of pellets this weekend, 3/4 MOA groups at 100 yards, very happy. If anything I will address 2nd stage regulator, but for now fingers crossed it's doing alright. thank you for your input.

you are correct, and having 1st stage all the way open, just slows your refill... Might as well delete it and call it a day.

If you don’t truly understand the benefits of two regs, then you definitely don’t need two. We all know guns that get along just fine with one. But there‘s also a reason why they get along just fine with one. Two can definitely help if you know what you’re looking for. You just can’t let that first reg spin you. It’s only kinda important for it to be fairly consistent. But you can’t have it following bottle pressure. If you’re content with how your gun performs with it doing that, then just delete it.

I've had my M3 just a little over 2 years and shooting .30 cal. First reg set at 160, second just a tad over 100. I shoot 45 gr pellets at 885 fps and, so far, it works perfectly. I do know from past experience with other FX rifles that if I start making large adjustments in the regs, they will start to creep because of the age of the O rings. At that point, I will rebuild them as I have done with the others.
