Western Airguns Western Airguns Mordax Venom

I was watching some Youtube hunting videos and came across this video. Apparently, Western Airguns released a bottled version (Larger reg too!) of the Mordax. I'm intrigued by it. Anyone have this gun in .22 and if it's able to produce more power than the aluminum tube version? I am also wondering if this is a better buy than the Edgun Leshiy 2. 🤔

So far just the 30 cal is out at 25 to 76 ft lbs (fpe). I heard there would be a conversion kit for the standard Mordax but I will most likely just get the Venom and sell or trade mine once the .22 is available.

Well that looks pretty darned cool. I already love the accuracy of the Mordax, and to me the power output has been at least adequate. But getting more shots per fill without adding too much more weight or bulk would to me be the game changer for this neat little gun.
How accurate is the Mordax? At 30 and 50 yards?

I haven't had mine long, and have so far only shot it on my backyard 25 yard range. And with .22 cal JSB 15.89's it stacks pellets in semi-auto mode as I have it set up with a scope (I'm using the zero eye relief MTC Viper-X 3-12). 15.89 domes only slightly more accurate as compared to FX Atomic hollow points. About 1"+ groups @ 25 yards with a full-auto magazine dump if you hold things as steady as you can. Both of these figures are shot off a bench with front bipod and rear sandbag. So measuring accuracy of the gun more than that of the shooter.

At the power my gun is set for (22 FPE, and I haven't tried to adjust it since receiving it), it would really only be good for the small pesting (ground squirrels) I have been known to do. And I'm darned certain that it would have at least 'minute of squirrel noggin' accuracy at 50 yards.

The Mordax was my introduction to SubMOA barrels. Since then I have also traded for a Brocock Sonoran, also with the SubMOA barrel, but this time in .30 cal and of rifle length. I enjoy the accuracy of both my guns with SubMOA barrels.

Thanks for sharing. For me it'll be a small hunting gun along with all my other air guns for tree squirrels. Max distance for me would be around 80 yards. Even with the Mordax being out for some time, there's not a lot of videos on it.

AoA is taking deposits on the next batch........
I got this info from Fox Air power.

Did you order the standard or the Venom?
I ordered the Venom. conflicted about if I made the right call..I think the gun's asthetic is kinda ruined with the 300cc bottle, but I'm sure it will make a huge different in shot count. The new plenum looks goofy as well, but if it means I can push heavier pellets a bit quicker it's worthwhile. I hear those 0DB Moderators are garbage as well. I hope I made the right decision

Keep me posted. I wouldn't mind a second hand Mordax Venom. However... I do prefer the .22. :)

esd02 - I think that you likely made the better call with ordering the Venom. It will be slightly bulkier/heavier and yes, will have differing aesthetics. But I think that overall it will be more flexible and capable in use.

The standard Mordax is great - but in a limited sort of way. I accept those limitations (power and shot count) and gladly enjoy the gun for what it is. If I need more power or shots, I choose a different gun. But none of those are as overall fun and handy as the Mordax. And I don't think that you will give up much of that fun with the Venom. Who knows - Maybe it will be beautifully balanced and even better than the standard one!

what caliber of Mordax do you own, and what FPS can you get out of it? I was wondering with the Venom how hard it can push a .25 pellet and if the extra power is even worth it from a shorter barrel/flight stability standpoint. Yeah, you can push the pellet faster, but will it still group with a faster velo? Hard to get any real data or answers on it.

This is in .22 caliber.

cool vid. thanks. does anyone actually have experience shooting slugs out of a mordax? Or might a video exist? I cant imagine why at those speeds with that short of a barrel anyone would truly try and push slugs thru, other than just to get a Foot Lb reading for poops and giggles

Here are my chrony log notes for my .22 (purchased pre-owned from AoA) and .25 (purchased new from AoA).

I haven't attempted to tune the .22 at all. And just a little turning of the power wheel on the .25 to get speeds up over 700 fps. Pretty tough to get too much out of such a short barrel. A known and accepted limitation to me.

EDIT- Replaced pic of data as my cut & paste was not accurate. .22 was bought used, .25 bought new.

super helpful. so if I want to push .25 pellet 800fps + and have some air to shoot thru a few mags the bigger plenum will certain help. this is great info, thank you
