I am sure lots of people have had these WTF moments.

Let me explain mine. I got a call from the farmer where I shoot pigeons and coyotes and he told me rats were coming into the new born calves holding area. It is a small barn with holding pans separating these new borns. This is the first time that rats are a problem at this location.

Needless to say, I was really excited with his bad news. I dropped by that late afternoon and had a look at the location and plan out the shoot for the night. We found entry holes from outside of the barn and the rats made tunnels inside the barn. I ranged the spots to be 5-15 yards where I could setup and shoot from. My HW100 and my Impact MK2 would be too much power for this small barn. I was going to use my Air Arm S510 .177 calibre, a 12 ft.lb rifle, but I am waiting for the O-rings to arrive in August as my fill tank was leaking due to old deteriorated O-rings.

My next low power gun is the Artemis PP700, a 22 calibre pistol/carbine conversion. It was shooting the 16gr pellets at 8 ft.lb. This would be a perfect tool for the task at hand. I mounted the Pard 008 on it and wend down to the farm at 9:30pm. Unfortunately, I haven't played with this carbine pistol for a long time and for some reasons, I couldn't get it to zero properly at 10 yards. My shots were jumping around the bullseye and I was getting frustrated and confused as to why it behaved like that. This gun was very accurate when I was playing with it back in the days. I guess things happened when I don't play with my tool.

Anyway, I went inside the barn at 10:15pm after the worker had finished his round for the night. The moment the lights went out, I immediately spotted rats coming in from the entry point. I scanned around the barn with my Pard 008 and I saw at least 10-12 rats running around, looking for food.

I was like a kid in a candy store, but couldn't have any sweets. I could only film them and see where they feed and roam about. I didn't want to take any shots because I couldn't trust my gun that night and I didn't want to damage any property and most importantly, not to shoot any calves by accident. I stayed for 30 mins and went home disappointed.

I texted the farmer the next day and told him my gun issue but I assured him that I will be back and dead rats will be the result.

I spent some time today inside my garage and set up the target box at 6 yards away. I shot at bullseye and of course the POI were scattering around no matter how much adjustments I did to the turrets with X and Y position. So I decided to remove the LCD and took 3 shots. Yup, the three pellets were in the same hole. Long story short, the problem was my LCD. Either it was dirty or something was causing the inconsistency.

Since this pistol is low powered, I can use it as is inside the barn for my rat shoot tonight.

Hopefully I will get some decent shots and some dead rats to show the farmer the next day. Stay tune.

Max , glad you got that figured out. I found a barrel band solved a problem with a certain pellet that didn't shoot worth beans through my moderator ! It didn't hurt the other ammo either.

you could lower the power on the impact.

Yup. That PP700 was shooting lights out when I was playing with it a while back. Too many toys to play with especially with my Impact and the M60B. Time to play with this pistol carbine at this barn tonight and let it get some rat-kill.

Just this morning, I watched a video where the guy was having the exact same issue.

Close examination of the LDC showed that his pellets were ever so slightly brushing the edge of the LDC's end cap.

He took a drill bit that was a fraction larger than the hole in the LDC and drilled it out.

BINGO!!! Problem solved
