Theoben When you have a GREAT gun ... No nibbles on selling it ... MAKE IT a Backup Field Target rig !!!

Over the last several years have put this THEOBEN RAPID Mk-2 up for sale in the forums and offered it at club swap meets too. Folks love it but wrong caliber for most who would use it for FT where originally as a .22 & 30 fpe power not enough for these modern times of hunters & pesters wanting more !!
So .... In my boredom today decided to KEEP IT and make it a Field Target rig

Having a FAC spec original .177 THEOBEN barrel at 21" stashed away it went into place. Probe machined down in diameter and a sleeve placed in single shot loader taking it to .177 in lieu of buying another. Changed out the valve parts, Destroked the OEM hammer with a PEEK strike tip and did up an SSG devise. Reset Reg to @ 1700 psi. All done it is shooting a JSB Monster RD 13.43g @ 810 fps just slipping under <20 fpe.
Dug out my last surviving MTC/Optisan Viper 4-16x50, used a 3D side wheel with BKL cantilever mounts and went out back sighted it in and getting the D.O.P.E. figured out. It is quiet with the HUGGET LDC swapped off the .22 barrel.
Appears accurate as heck while sighting it in .... Think we have a more than decent back up rig now to take along to matches or loan out during club events etc ...

Previously the "AZ" modified bottle to have a fill, was further altered to not only now have a "Foster: filler fitting, but a WIKI pressure gauge as well.

Damn sexy beast with it's Fancy Grade MILBRO Walnut thumbhole W/ thumb up cutaway. We are indeed Rockin It Old School with this classic from a bygone era !!!

Who needs new gear when the best of best of the old still gets it done !!!

Had ordered up a Ultra Low "Monstrum" 30mm one piece cantilever mount a couple days ago.
Previous BKL cantilever mount had scope at @ 2.6" which IMO for Hunter class FT it too damn high !!
With the Monstrum mount we're at 2.1" which is about ideal for how I shoot. The forward optics position is also for my style which is Deadman Lap off my knee while on a seat and shootin sticks.

We made up an 11 shot pellet holder sticking it to the side of receiver ( This is handy when offhand or kneeling not having to fuss with a pellet pouch )

Got it sighted in .. Again :cautious: and when in my FT position at my zero of 28 yards just put 10 shots into a cloverleaf hole of @ 5/16" Thinking that will work just fine !!

New beauty picture in full sun ...
