JTS Anyone having a moderator clipping problem on Airacuda Max .30 ?

Anyone having a moderator clipping problem on Airacuda Max .30 ?

3 Dec 2023 UPDATE. I received another Max in 30 caliber from Pyramyd Air a few days ago. This replaced my previous three Max, one in each caliber that were clipping moderators due to a manufacturing defect in the air gun not the moderator. This defect has been extensively reported and commented on through most of the appropriate forms. So it's likely my new Max in 30 caliber was from a batch wherein the defect has been corrected. That means that I shot my Airacuda Max in 30 caliber with the Ronan 35 caliber moderator and it did not clip and it shot very accurately and substantially reduced the report.

I've had problems getting my 22cal to group so i posted on a airacuda Facebook page looking for answers. I posted pics of my barrel and a rough patch inside it that i have concerns with. Travis whitney commented
"just lap it out".
To me that is the wrong response. He should have said, sent it back and I'll replace the barrel! I shouldn't have to gather up a bunch of tools and products to work on and try to repair a new gun. To me it says alot about what kind of guy travis is. You don't treat your customers this way and you should stand by your products. I will not purchase nor will i refer anyone to purchase any products travis whitney is involved with.
Below are pictures of the rough patch inside the barrel. View attachment 424258

Definately send it back to your dealer or JTS as it is a defect and must (unbder law) be covered by Warranty. The response from Travis is unbelievable ! Who did you buy it from and when?

3/8" will do it for .30 Airacuda Max
The moderator clipping is a factory defect in the gun is not acceptable and should be sent back to JTS. Finally I got a 30 caliber Maxx where the defect appear to be corrected. I'm not gonna try to make a moderator hole larger just to correct the factory defect which is unacceptable.

IMHO, Travis has no ethics and I doubt that JTS does either because refuses to acknowledge the moderator clipping issue and there's more I just don't really wanna go into it because it's too upsetting. Travis is no teenager or youngster, he's a mature, at least chronologically, adult. They have that kind of response come from him is something I've seen many times before. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, the Airacuda Max is an outstanding PCP rifle. For a company with ethics and a great product and great support look to Air Venturi.

Hello , just got my JTS Max .30 and , effectively , it's not accurate at all with a silencer. I put the Donn Fl adapter to get things in line and it shoots in a dime at 50 yards .....without silencer. With the sumo it shoots like a shotgun. I don't know if it's a clipping or turbulence problem. I think the longer the silencer the more chance of clipping . So I wonder if a short but large moderator like the Donny Fl Fat Boy would be a solution . Did any of you try it on his gun ?

Clipping has been a major problem with Airacuda Max For many years. Most people believe that that is because of defective crowns at the end of the barrel. Others believe that it is misalignment of the shroud, and the barrel. In any case, I bought all three calibers, and returned them all to pyramid air for these defects..

JTS continues to deny that there was ever a problem with clipping in their acm.

Where did you buy it? Did you contact the seller?
I believe that you should contact the seller or JTS and request a warranty replacement as this is clearly a defect and is unacceptable.

While the Airacuda Max Has many admirable features, I would avoid that and consider purchasing an Avenge-X from Pyramyd Air

Thank you , I'll probably make contact with Krale , my seller in Holland. Strange that JTS didn't fix this problem .

Like I said, for several years JTS Airacuda Max Has had this clipping problem and GTS continues to deny that there's any problem. So it's a defective gun and I recommend that you return it as defective and purchase something like.an Avenge-X in more or less same price range.

I modified a DonnyFl Sumo moderator by drilling out the bore to 10mm , instead of the 9mm ffactory . No trace of clipping , noise is reduced to a +/- correct level , but accuracy is not that good . So I suspect turbulences at the exit of the moderator . If this is the case a DonnyFl Fat boy with an air stripper / muzzle brake could maybe fix the problem .

Needless to say, free advice is usually worth what you pay for it. But that said, in my opinion, you should not modify a DONNYFL product. Donnie knows what he's doing and don't think you know more about it than he does. That said, my only experience with three. Airacuda Maxs, and reports from numerous others the crown on those guns is usually defective, and or the alignment of the barrel in the shroud is not correct. Defective guns should be returned to the manufacturer for warranty replacement. If you want to Fat Boy, which I really liked because it's adaptable easily to multi caliber out of the box and it's very effective on most of my guns. If you're interested in buying the fat boy, send me a private message or call me at 646 450 1515

Thanks Sky King . To make things clear I didn't modify a DonnyFl Sumo to improve it , but to be sure that clipping was not the problem . So I open up the baffles and : no, there was no clipping, but yes the efficiency of the mod was ruined. I agree with you saying DonnyFl makes a great job in the design of his product , so don't touch it . So I'll probably try to rectify the barrel crown on my lathe and go for a Fat Boy at the same time . It that doesnt work , I'll shoot the gun without moderator , but in a stand dedicated to the powder burners ;) .
