Do You Shoot Airguns With Any Women?

My daughter enjoys plinking with me when she visits.

Damn... so sorry to hear that. That hits me. My daughter (in previous comment) went through leukemia from age 11 - 14.

Your daughter is still with you at the range.
That’s a beautiful thing to say — thank you. And I’m so sorry to hear what your daughter went through… that’s a heavy road for any parent. I hope she’s doing well now.

And yeah, I like that thought — still with me at the range and out in the fields and woods. Always will be.

Spot on Paul. We have 3 ladies who shoot off-and-on with us at our weekly shoots in my back yard, and they can all more than hold their own with an air rifle. And that special whoop that they let out - when they have 'stolen' a target from a guy shooter, vaporized a lolipop, or cleaned the Know Your Limits target set out at 50. Just pure joy.

My wife also shoots air rifles a little bit and when we have family or friends at the house, ladies seem to love to shoot the airguns. And heck, the range is there and set up anyway, so why not get some more use out of it?

Due to schedules, health or other things, some of our regular lady shooters haven't been shooting as frequently as they did in the past. So I used that as part of my excuse to spend the money on the new camo Yeti target we named "Huevos." He resides out on the 50 yard range now, and I was hoping that he might be seen as a 'special' target just for the ladies. Of course the first week we had Huevos on the range, no lady shooters showed up. So one of the guys had to play the role of 'honorary lady shooter' that week.

That’s brilliant, mate — love the vibe of your backyard range. Sounds like a cracking group, and I can just picture the scene with that whoop of victory when one of the ladies snipes a target clean off. Proper fun, and honestly, that kind of joy is what shooting should be about.

Had a laugh at “Huevos” too — classic. Of course the week you roll out a special target, no one shows up to appreciate it! But fair play to the honorary lady shooter stepping up. Sounds like your range is as much about community as it is about shooting, and I reckon that’s what keeps it all meaningful.

When our daughter's last chemo treatment was coming up, we asked her how she would like to celebrate on that day... "I want to go to the range."

And so we did.

Yes we do.
At the Diablo Club in Bay Point, CA we have the pleasure of shooting airgun silhouette and indoor 10M airgun with a lady who was a member of the untested 1980 Olympic Rifle Team.
Margaret was an air rifle and air pistol competitor on the team that was not allowed by presidential degree from attending the 1980 olympics in Russia.
Time marches on it has taken some toll on this lovely lady but, when she picks up her FWB300 Universal, time stands still.
She is absolutely amazing.

I used to go shooting and out hunting with my daughter quite a bit. Sadly, she’s no longer with us—we lost her in a car accident. She was a cracking shot, too. In general, I reckon women make pretty solid shooters. There aren’t loads of them about, but the ones I know can more than hold their own—often gave us a proper run for our money. They’re not so serious about it, and I suppose that’s a plus. That said, I’m quite glad my wife’s not into shooting. Love her to bits, but that’s one part of my life I’d rather keep to myself.
Solid shooters is right. I’ve been shooting springers since 1983. My niece with my TX200HC can definitely outshoot me. And she can outshoot her dad out to 50+ yards when he’s using a PCP. One time years ago I asked her about her technique and thought process while shooting a springer. Her reply was what technique? What thought process? I just shoot.
