DonnyFL Shogun or 0DB 160S? NEED TO KNOW RIGHT MEOW!

For Barra 250z 22 cal.

I don't mind a long moderator since I am only shooting indoors to outdoors. I have another rifle for walk abouts.

So, I have filtered down to 2 moderators:

DFL Shogun & 0DB 160S or Tactical

These two have the diameters I want, 1.25" and 1.6"

0db says .22 for .22, but Donny says .25 for .22.

Lots of videos showing 0db not affecting precision at all.

So, which one do I run with?

I wouldnt recommend buying any donny of the old style. Only the yokozuna and Ryu new style are worth my money now that I own a yoko. They're lightyears ahead in tech. They're heavier but smaller, modular so you don't have to run all the sections, can harmonic tune with that and they'll quiet a very very loud rifle to almost a click.

My sumo the shoguns little brother edged out the odb 160 on a vet std .22 . So I would say between the two get the shogun.

The difference for me between the sumo and odb was the tone the noise levels where very close but the tone of the odb stood out .

I have had several different mods on several different guns and have not run into any accuracy issues.

Woods walking I like a little moderation but at the home range I like to keep things as quiet as possible and that to me now means sto falx on my .22 std and sarrisa on the .25 vet compact all I hear is the hammer and the pellet impact.

I know you have the two in mind, but if they fit your criteria look at sto .

Different baffles?

I looked hard at the Sarissa, but I don't like the company's stance on outer finish. I could put a better finish on the aluminum in community college lathe class than they do as a production company.

I have zero problems with the finish on the sto moderators I actually prefer the looks of them on the rifle to the donnyfl moderators but I have a basic not to flashy style and I am most definitely the function over form type .

That’s all just personal preference we like what we like and when it comes down to it any of these moderators will do the job and I will continue to split hairs.

Point taken. However, when I know as even a novice on the manual lathe, it wouldn't take anything out of the cost to run a lathe to a smooth finish. Seconds difference.

Different baffles?
Oh ya dude, it's a completely different architecture. Those two models use basically a k baffle firearms design, but tweaked for our needs of slowing down an air pulse as opposed to ejects from ignition. Lemme grab a yoko baffle and my ronin and take pics for you. So th yoko and Ryu are modular and each baffle stage is a standalone part.

The Ronin has a machined frame with baffle firewalls creating chambers, then some fine stainless wire mesh and finally a felt wrap for muffler packing. I'm not breaking the tape to show you the inner guts. The first two are ronin, the last two are a single yokozuna baffle. The yoko and Ryu have a far more sophisticated design that alone and down 1 baffle made my 74 fpe 22 impact as quiet as the ronin combined with a better air stripper and a carbon shroud did.
There's nothing wrong with the older donny designs and they work, but they're more of a muffler than a blast suppressor imho. I make my own for other guns but I'm just taken by the work that went into the yoko and it finally made my impact precise with slugs and quiet which is a must for me. The new designs are not as multi caliber as the old ones. You order 22 and it's not going to shoot 25 ever if you switch them, where the ronin did.

Always 0db

Reximex Silencers, interesting!

I didn't know they made them — so I did some searching.

Here is a thread that explains their weaknesses — and suggests easy fixes:

Cheers,

Matthias

I found that too.
I also disagree.
They work very well

There was a thread where it was quietest.

STO Falx is a very good moderator too.

Smaller, lighter, quieter
They are more compact and look better hanging off the end of the barrel.
DFL look like you hung a can on the end of the barrel.

Personally I've moved on to Reximex Silent Force. Quieter than the STO Falx and $32 from sharg.pl. Max .25 but very quiet.

I was asking about my gun with a barrel and shroud that is 1.25" dia which with the Shogun provides less a diameter step up change than you show on your barrel. So you should like the Shogun on this then!

I have a few moderators, I liked testing out the various models.

My Sumo is 1.6"
My 0db 160 is 1.33"
My Reximex Silent Force is 1"
My STO Falx is 1.75"
My STO Sarrissa is 1.75"
My Huma Air Mod 50 is 1.9365"
My Huma Air Mod 40 is 1.6"
My Airgun Capital is 1.125"
My Buck Rail is 1.2"

I have a Hugget Magna on my FX .30 Bobcat but that is with a friend. Came with the gun when I bought it. Very good moderator.

And none of them is a problem.
All do a very good job of moderating.
Only a few DB difference, mostly by ear.
The Huma, STO, Sumo and Odb are .30
The others are all .25

Huma and STO Sarrisa are very long.
The 0db most expensive.
Huma and STO next.
Silent Force lowest cost
Buck Rail next.
The rest fall somewhere in the middle.

Overall on my .22 and .25 I like the Silent Force and Airgun Capital. Metal, narrow and cheap or almost cheap.

The Huma are on loud .30 guns, AEA Terminator and Umarex G30. The Sarissa can be swapped in for either with no degradation.
