We watch such "Eat your buddy" tactics every year when up in the alfalfa fields shooting the Belding ground squirrels.
To date after @ 12 years doing so my record is 7 inside @ 1 foot radius. Crazy fun, but need to be actively watching or others will drag the dead back underground for the cannibal feasting

Yeah, they're quick to cannibalize each other here too. Got a video from last week where I got 4 in about 10 minutes. After the 1st one down it only took a few minutes before a "buddy" would try to eat it. Daisy chain effect

I had that happen with rabbits. After i got out of service 2 tours. Was at my parents place in the country. Noone had been shooting on the property while i was gone. I set up a ladder stand and after 30 min i had 18 rabbits laying in 3 piles 50ft from me. I would whack one then another would hop out of the trees to see what happened the whack and so on. After 30 min my dad walked out to see what i was shooting at. He asked me if I had piled the up hhe couldnt belive it when i told him thats where i shot them 3 neat 2foot diameter piles. It was a good day for me bad for rabbits

Wow! Great vid. I honestly didn't know ground squirrels were cannibalistic. Got none here. But I have seen tree squirrels eat bird before. About what distance were those?

I have also pested for ground squirrels and have seen the same aggressive cannibalism....crazy....great video!
