FX New to .30 cal - what works well for you?.

Hello everyone.

I have shot .25 cal high power airguns for a few years now but now i am deciding to get a .30 cal FX IMPACT M4 in 700mm with a superior liner, my intention is to get it set up to shoot slugs at pests birds, rabbits and foxes, what does everyone find works well in there .30cal impacts? Obviously i may need to get a 700mm slug liner, any answers would be appreciated.

My own built custom ....
Marauder G2 based with ONLY the Trigger group, Partial stock, Partial air tube being semi original.
Every other part & piece from someplace else.
Cruises at 90fpe and leaned on near 130 fpe.
Accurate to a shooters fault.

Hi Redwolfpaul25. Sorry to answer your question with a question, but a high-powered .25 seems like it would already be good for birds, rabbits, and foxes. What are you finding to be not OK with your existing .25's that a .30 would do? I'm just curious.

A .30 caliber for shooting birds and small pests? Way overkill IMO. First of all the M4 is quite capable of doing what you say, if you want to vaporize those critters. And, ammo is way more expensive. I use my M3 .30 cal for 100 yd BR competition with pellets, but I sure don’t use it for plinking. Your .25 is more than capable enough to do what you propose with pellets. I also have a Wildcat Mk3 in .25 and using 25.54 gr pellets, it smacks a steel plate at 100 yds with authority.

Purely out of curiosity buddy, yes my .25 does everything i need it to do, being that i live in the uk, .30cal high power is not common place and seeing as the impact platform is so modular i thought i would just buy a barrel kit and see how things come in.

Bigger hole bigger wound, faster kill.

I have taken javalinas, coyotes and wild turkeys with .25, .30 and .357.

I have taken white tailed deer with .30 and .357.

A .30 Cal at 100 fpe with 61.5 slugs is the best combination (speed/power) I have used yet up to now for hunting. I will try next season the 55 grain slugs.

The caliber I like the must for hunting from rabbit to javalinas is .30 Cal, but for all-around I like the .25.

Whomever has a .25 do not need a .22

Whomever has a.22 do not need a .177

I have a .308 Texan that I use for coyote and woodchucks, racoons at long distance 100-180 yards for coyote and over 200 for the rest no birds. For the money you will be hard pressed to find a better hunter, that is a slug gun. Mine is modified and tuned for 330 fpe, 150gr at 990fps and a Mad Dog stock and cheaper than an FX. That is if you want a 30 cal.

I think the .25 is a great all-around caliber but the .22 is cheaper to plink with. To me 30 is for benchrest competition and larger quarry

I have a couple 30 caliber airguns. One slug one pellet shooter. Never considered shooting pest birds with them. Just asking for trouble. In .30, I skipped the whole FX Impact platform. That gun can require a billion rounds shot over a chronograph to get it dialed in as you play with settings and components. Then another million rounds checking on it from time to time or chasing your next dream. A .30 is not only costly but it also leaves massive amounts of lead in the target traps while testing, not to mention the damage. My two .30’s were very quickly set it and forget it guns. Minimal lead during testing.

FX M3 here, .30cal, shooting 44gn JSB pellets, they do well 50 and 100yards at 880-890fps. Slugs, dude, you only need slugs if you shooting way out of 100 yards, they will need to go 1000fps, allot more power on regulator, now you only shooting 40 rounds out of fill VS 90 shots with pellets, and why? I say 44 or 50gn pellets will do just fine for any small game 100 +/- yards, slugs is whole different game, and tuning for slugs, ohh boiii, you'll have to get 5 boxes of each slug out there, just to figure out what your gun likes. Good luck

Which .30 airguns do you have? Which would you recommend for .30 slugs and which one for .30 pellets?

So FX is still putting the plenum pressure gauge on the BOTTOM of the rifle? WTF? That's like putting the tachometer of a Dakar bike under the fuel tank. Find a .30 slug airgun from a different company! Sorry I can't recommend which company, just not this FX nonsense.

I've had several Evanix RainStorm II's in .30 that were great for reaching out 90 - 100 yards to drop G-Hogs and Bandits only used pellets in those.
Now have an FX Dream Lite with a 700mm barrel that shoots NSA Slugs and does the exact same thing.
And I do take out Starlings with a .30 when I want to really put the hurt on them! I'm not anal about the cost of shooting .30 compared to lower cals.
Something about that WHACK sound is just so satisfying!

And I do have a pellet liner and a slug liner for the FX.
