Other Coup De Grace

Um...I was taught in a different era, by my Dad. A Coup de grace shot is for large critters that can possibly still do you harm if you get too close (and you get a stern, Naval-language enhanced, lecture about shot placement, free of charge). Small game get stepped on, collapsing their lungs. Hold 'em down till they expire. Don't hunt barefooted.

Squirrels and bunnies going in the game bag are always trod upon, lest they wake up in the bag. Birds get their necks wrung.

Old memories!

That said, I have an old Benjamin/Sheridan pump pistol in .177 that would fill the bill nicely. I'm about to rebuild it for very short range pest control...like 10-15ft.

Guys I’m aware of what has to be done in a hunting situation. Had to once tackle a turkey, that was fun haaa!
This is in a backyard, not going to be doing any rabbit chops. The animal in question surprisingly was not dead,
just off the yard on the woods border. Something in the line of a discreetly sized pistol would have been nice. As
it was I had to go in and get my Beeman 2027.
The P17 is the front runner, I wonder how loud it is ?
By the way I don’t think this scenario would often be repeated.
Thanks,
Mike

Not just hunting, pesting around the house too. Imperfect shots happen. I use my boot every time.

I don't think your plan is a bad one. There are always circumstances that require different solutions.

Never ceases to amaze me how many responses to solicitations for recommendations stray from clearly stated requisites (like "discretely-sized"). That said, assuming you're willing to spend $200, I'll make another recommendation (that easily fits in a pocket).

By the way, QUALITY Co2 guns often hold pressure for months, if not indefinitely. But if not, is popping in a fifty-cent new cartridge a deal-breaker to otherwise enjoy the best choice that fits all your rerquisites?

Though not exactly a target pistol, at rattlesnake-shooting distances (of 1.5 to 2 steps) the Gem did the job of finishing off one of the most dangerous (to Mankind) animals known to Man. Per my modus operandi, a brain-shot (of course). With a bit more practice and familiarization, think I'll be able to increase my effective range by another .5 to 1 step.

Finally found the perfect use for a nice little case I picked up recently at a yard sale (y)-

Ron,

you're killing me.

🔸️ Your fatal obsession with air pistols knows no end.....
(But of course, you knew that.)

🔸️ Your reckless enabling of your fellow airgunners by posting sheer irresistible air pistols
with purchase links (HELP ME! 😱) —
will result in the financial doom of several of us here.
(I'm willing to go out first. Who's second?)

We love you for it, Ron.

Matthias 😊
