Crosman No more 2240?

So I have decide to finally buy another 2240 for the PCP conversion that I have had sitting in my basement fore about 2 years. Apparently all the 2240’s have been sold, and the new ones if they continue to make them will be made in china to a different spec than the ones made in the United States.

Crosman has really disappointed me with this, I enjoyed the fact that Crosman made affordable Airguns that were made in the United States. Not to mention the 2240 is a remarkable piece of equipment that is very accurate and was very affordable.

Guess I’ll be searching the rummage sales for 2240’s now

I have a newly fully made in China 2240 xl and it's absolute garbage compared to the 2240s of the past. Crosman is truly taking the last dive. I doubt they will be in business in another 5 years at this rate.

I'm lucky enough to have a custom shop one and a big 5 one. Crosman is going to be all Taiwanese guns. Real quick.

That's hard to do. It's a cheesy aluminum valve and stamped tube.. I dread the thought of what could be worse now.

I wish they were Taiwan guns, atleast most stuff from there has some modicum of QC and Mfg pride. The latest crosman junk guns are pure PRC garbage. Breaks my heart. Crosman used to be bargain bin stuff but atleast shootable.

They have my gun that I shot for 1 week and it was beyond worth my time. It's a Taiwanese m1 carbine.... I knew something was off when I called customer service. Let's hope they get sold and brought back. I won't be buying any Chinese crosman anymore. If the brand fails, it fails.

first off Crosman is not in charge anymore, like Daisy they have been bought by Gamo
now the American made 2240 was it really that great
the tubes were poorly made and were stamped so you could never hide the markings
the rear sight was, is a joke for the most part front sight is slipped on plastic indexed on the barrel flat
breech was plastic how special was that and the barrels seemed to work for most part but in the 20 years of reading forums there has been many posts saying their sucked
the trigger grip-frame are nothing special and most are looking to change them as soon as possible
that leaves the guts and over the years many brass valve have been changed to aluminum in many guns
the pictures at PA show to me a much better looking tube and that is a plus on the new pistol
and one other thing China and Taiwan are not the same place close but not the same, they advanced at very different rates
final note
the Snowpeak products are made in China and are sold under a few different names, and their QC is above average, and Diana is leaning on them very hard
i would like some to show me a side-by-side difference of the USA made 2240 and the Chinese made 2240

GARBAGE IS A VERY GENERAL TERM but explains nothing what is garbage

Trust me once you handle a new fully china made 2240 your jaw will drop. The trigger feels like grit, the milling is so obvious where they used an old worn bit, the barrel is different, even the "blueing" is different.

And yes I would agree with you marflow that the older "us made" ones weren't particularly great, but these new ones. They just can't even compare at how bad they are.

I posted extensively with pics all about what's wrong with the new 2240xl in this link.

The stamped tubes were done like garbage for sure.

Shortcuts in manufacturing something already cheap is what worries me. Due to this issue, other than the barrel, I would call my Chinese aea garbage too. The DUMBEST design/manufacturing flaws ruin it for me.

The crosmans at the end of the usa period only really made me mad with the rear plastic components. Site and action block.

The 2240 was a great pistol platform to customize and build off. I've got one that is so far from being a 2240 pistol it's ridiculous. But it was one of those iconic mod platforms. It's a shame it has gone the way it has.

If you really want a good Crossman pistol though, you have to look further back into Crosman's past at the Mark 1 and Mark 2. These are legendary platforms that Tim turned into his LD masterpieces. I own a Mac LD in .20 with a 10" barrel - and it is a very special pistol.

You have perfectly summed up my own feelings regarding recent Crosman products.

I think their only saving grace is their modularity. You can build one up into something very nice, but it won’t have many original parts left on it.

what was great about the 2240 as an United States made product was that for $75 you could have something made in the United States that would shoot very well, and in my own experience a out the box 2240 at 15 yards was very hard to beat by even a $400 22LR pistol.

That’s what made it great, no of course it couldn’t keep up at 20 yards but heck it was a $75 pistol that was totally worth every penny and then some.

Now let’s talk about how to make it your own, basically your wallet was the limit.

The sad thing is that we are all whiteness to one more product that was really awesome, and now it’s gone.

Once available I’ll buy a Chinese one and I will compare my unmodified United States 2240 to the new one, and however it turns out it does.

I just hate the fact that if you want something from the United States, you have to buy it 5 years ago.

I have a custom shop version....I guess I'm keeping it and passing it onto my little guy. I bought it just for up close pests .

I also have a Custom Shop version and it is great. I think they called it the model 2400KT or something similar. Needed a little trigger massage and that was it. I’m glad I still have that one.

Amen to that
If it was such a good pistol to begin with why did it open up another industry for the upgraded parts.
Yes it was a basic pistol and very cheap but by the time you finished buying this and that from the modified parts bin the only thing original was probably the handle frame lol.
The barrels were very accurate to be fair and maybe the best part.
You could spend an absolute fortune on these things and still be more frustrated after adding the new parts that you would spend more money buying someone else's parts to correct the one before .
You may have well just bought the hw44 and saved some money lol.
Yep they watched us suckers coming from miles away 😁
I have the Chinese add on to convert it to hpa so only thing original is trigger frame/ breech / and barrel the original trigger needs to be modified .
And to be fair its very good for just over £120 uk .
And the drop block version with new unstamped tube with tube to face of the valve gmac custom style which costs twice as much.
And the bog standard version which I wish I would of stopped with in the first place lol and saved a small fortune 😁
The words run away spring to mind every time I hear the crosman name lol.
I rest my case with the man above avator 👍
