I shot at the Nenameseck Woods and FT club Sunday. The course was 60 shots, with one kneeler, and one standing lane. The conditions were slightly breezish, just enough to feel it, not enough to move out of the kill zone. Shifting to a springer has been a fun adventure so far. I've got it shooting relatively stable and had no shifts during the match. Given my lack of practice, and a not quite correct stock I left 20pts in the woods. It's ok though. I've learned what needs to be adjusted on the stock, and what I need to practice, specifically. Also, having Leo as by standard doesn't help.

Best part was you were having fun carrying around that giant slab of wood

In my opinion, based on experience and observations, to avoid coming away from an FT match after using a springer the gun should be at least as heavy as possible to handle (preferably without a crane), and tuned to the nth degree by a spring-piston magician. Just sayin'; not criticizin'.

Matter of fact the least prone to zero shifts spring rifle of five nice ones I own (a .22 Pro Sport) is in the hands of the closest springer smith for a Vortek transplant, in hopes she continues maintaining zero as well, but with renewed vigor and smoothness. Yes, I said .22.

No, I won't put a heavy custom stock on her for FT work. If she doesn't do well enough in FT, she's relegated to a lovely small-game and pest rifle. Hey...

"Consider the source." 🤪

I like custom stocks and will "put up " with the extra weight .

The action is a gen 3 Air Arms TX 200. A Sightron S8 for the scope.

The stock started as a black and white laminate blank. The inserts and banding is Ipe, also called iron wood. I used it to help with weight distribution, and to dampen some of the springer harmonics. Fun note, It also looks cool, and can take the abuse of inclement weather. The butt hook is solid aluminum. I got it from another shooter for free so can't say who made it, or which rifle it was for originally.

It still needs a bit of shaping to sit perfectly. I'll get that squared away this week.

Oh, it doesn't look black because I applied a full can of Rustoleum Pearl to it, then a half can of clear enamel. Sealed up tight!
