Has anyone thought about adding weight to the crown with a grs stock? I’m thinking I would like it to be a little heavier when shooting standing.
Keith1 here i have one is it hard to chage out? The GRS stock looks greatHi Hopsing,
I am sorry to have to report to you that all the info on the FX website (and thus the Utah Airguns website) about the Crown GRS stock is incorrect. It is not as heavy as the FX info says. They show the rifle with the synthetic stock at 6.2 lbs, with the laminate stock at 6.8 lbs, and with the GRS at 9.6 lbs. That is not even close.
I own two MkII Crowns with GRS stocks and have very carefully weighed them and all the parts. My 500mm barrel, .177 Crown Mk II with the 480cc CF bottle with the stock off weighs 4.44 lbs. The GRS stock (with the attaching bolts) weighs 2.27 lbs. That gives a total weight of 6.71 lbs, or almost exactly what the info from FX says the regular synthetic stock weighs.
The GRS stocks are beautiful with a really smooth mechanism for the cheek riser and butt stock extension. But the best part to me is the offset and angled grips that feels perfectly natural and leads me to a "thumbs up" grip position. I have done so well with this rifle that on my other rifles which aren't lucky enough to have a GRS stock I have concocted a way to use the "thumb up" position on them (installed a thumb shelf usually).
For shooting from the bench I designed and 3D printed and adapter that fits onto the butt extension rails which allows me to use the Saber Tactical Monopod. I also milled out the short forestock area so I could recess an Anshutz UIT rail which allows me to put a small picatinny adapter for my bipod or switch that out for an adjustable palm rest.
Get the GRS stock for all the great benefits, but one of them is not making the rifle heavier.
Cheers,
Greg
