No guru here…The Pathfinder is but a mini Commander, if you take a closer look you will see its undeniable. Same form factor in a smaller package. Similar to the Atomic/Rangers being but smaller Concept XRs. That said, I really love my Pathfinder for what you are describing above and its how I use mine… Just don’t plop a huge scope on it…
This is out the box… no tuning on my part…I was looking a little closer at Pathfinders, I assumed it was just a Ranger with a HP bottle, adjustable reg. and a barrel shroud. But it seems it actually has a 10" barrel, while the Ranger/Atomic have a 12" barrel. Interesting they chose to go shorter. I am guessing the shroud is 12" with an air stripper inside, so it helps with noise reduction. Looks very cool, I wonder how much juice it could get behind an 18 grain pellet if the reg. and hammer spring were turned up for putting squirrels in the crock pot.
So many tools/toys... I have been trying to find info about what is different between the Sahara and the regular Sniper XR, other than paint. I have found quotes that there are performance differences, but nothing specific.

The adjustable reg for dialing down the power during bird nesting season and then back up for squirrel season does make the Pathfinder look just about right... I see how it is, you aren't the BRK guru, you moonlight as a BRK salesman. This is out the box… no tuning on my part…

Plenty of energy for squirrels out to 50+ yards and you can bump up the power if you wish to…
The guns sell themselves, I am but one voice, that said, check out my Atomic XR. Kneeling at 54 yards, just for fun of course, UTG Red dot atop sending CPHPs…The adjustable reg for dialing down the power during bird nesting season and then back up for squirrel season does make the Pathfinder look just about right... My folding stock adaptor on the Ranger allows the stock to twists a millimeter or two: just a slight rotation. Does yours also do this?
No way, those Ghosts are so ugly. And way too heavy. And I hear they smell funny to.@puddleglum - You could be like @L.Leon and get a Ghost and if you really wanted to use it for some larger game outside, you could get another barrel. I have a Ghost in .30 and converting it to .177 for "indoor shooting" is a consideration.
There is a little play in the folding adapter, a small wooden shim fixed it for me… I use mine both with and without the shim. Same practical accuracy for me…@L.Leon Do you notice a little rotation in the BRK folding stock adaptor? Mine rotates just a little bit. I originally though it was my stock on the buffer tube, and there was a little play there, but I fixed that and there is still a little movement, and see it is in the lockup point of the folder.
I don't notice that movement when I am shouldering the gun, hard to say if it would affect accuracy.
I reread this post. I wish I had seen or heard of the Zulus before I got my NV100 or either of my ATN's. It would have been near perfect on my Kral NP03 .22.After getting this Ranger set up, I proceeded to do nothing with it. Been using my Taipan for pests in the yard, and just haven't gotten out into the barn or shed at night. Also just haven't been many house sparrows on the farm this year, so that is good.
Part of this has been, looking at chairgun, I haven't been a fan of the amount of variation in aiming height on this setup. At 3 yards, which is possible inside the barn, I would have to hold 1.5in high due to height of the optic above bore, then 1" high at 6 yards, then .75" high at 9 yards, then a little ways where it is pretty close to zeroed, and then it starts dropping fast, due to the slower moving .22 pellet since I am trying to keep the fpe down.
I was thinking if I switch to .177 I could get a flatter curve with a faster moving pellet helping with the far end of my shooting range.
Also was thinking something with a magazine that does not protrude above the receiver, like a Walther RM8 or a HW100/HW110 would let me get the optic closer to the bore.
Seems like these would be two ways to reduce variation in aiming which would be great for putting a pellet where I want it.
Am I overthinking it?
Thanks,
