To be fair the juveniles lack the iridescence and speckling.
Their beaks are still black. And they're greyish black drab birds.
It's the beak shape and size...
Can be confusing. So many birds are hard to tell apart.
Female house finches and certain Sparrows look very similar for one example

The app also gives call examples..... That work. Check your local regs on this obviously. Merlin is pretty fun.
That tail looks like you made a mistake..... But if I'm wrong and it's just ruffled I get after crows too. It's weird how ravens and crows will hang out together and ravens will even mourn popped crows. Whatever you hit him with you blew the down out of him
