What am I doing Wrong mounting a scope on my M4

Hello Forum members! I spent way too much time today trying to mount a scope on my M4 only to have 1.5 revelations left on the elevation turret?
my gear- Athlon Midas Tac HD, 6-24x50, Mrad, 30mm tube, Element Optics low scope rings. I was trying to get as much elevation as the scope would allow, w/the scope bottomed out I click up 35 and 40 clicks/4 mrad and start zeroing from there. Aim at the Bull and the pellet hole is 10" or 15" inches down. So, I dialed the elevation turret up and the reticle drops to the point of impact, and I got my 25yds zero. But" the Elevation turret is now up on line two or slightly more" and there's about 1 3/4 full revelations of travel and the scope is maxed out vertically... The scope rail has built in MOA, I'm sure the rail is not backwards or something, I slid it back for eye relief that's it. I usually can mount and zero in 30 mins or less- Not today! 🤬

You need to get some FX adjustable scope rings to get some elevation back. Easy to use but takes a session at the range to get it where you want it.

Thanks for the quick reply" I have No Limits on a couple rifles and have had good success with them...
I really thought I didn't need them for this because of the 20 MOA built into the rail; So, I got straight rings.

You could also try rotating the barrel, commonly referred to as indexing the barrel. I'd try this first, as the barrels are pretty flimsy on the Impacts and it may be bent.
Never tried anything like that before, I got around this problem with the No Limit rings... I would be scared to twist the barrel on my new rifle... LOL

I’d like to see photos of the rifle and scope from both sides full length. Something is seriously off here and throwing a lot of changes without more information will just make it worse. You’re getting 10-15 inches low at 25 yards?. Try shooting about 3 five shot groups using the same pellets for each group and don’t change any adjustments.. If it groups well then all the screws are probably tight. If it’s grouping badly make sure everything is tight. If it’s grouping well but you have to use all your elevation adjustment to get on target then either the barrel is bent or improperly installed or your scope installation is way off. Without seeing it but based on past experience I suspect the scope installation is the problem.

Forgive me if I’m thinking wrong, but isn’t 1-3/4 turns 17.5mil, or pretty darn close to half the scope’s travel (12.5mil) plus your rail inclination (guessing 5.8mil)? Aside from adding a little extra through the use of adjustable rings it sounds pretty normal..
I was wondering the same thing. "1.75 Revolutions" could be a lot of Mils depending on the scope and turret. I dont own a Midas TAC, but from the pics it appears the turret travel is like 10 Mils per full revolution. If that is the case the total travel of 25 Mils of elevation is only 2.5 full revolutions of total adjustment.

But then again, the OP post is a little confusing. He might be saying he has used 1.75 worth of elevation adjustment to zero at 25yds and now does not have much if any elevation remaining in his turret.

To the OP, are you sure FX didnt install the canted scope base rail backwards? They have certainly done stranger things the last few years. Can you post a picture of your setup from a side profile so we can help?

I'm with Rick and Trucker, you shouldn't need crutches for a rifle like that, something is wrong. Have you ever had a scope on this gun before?
No" new out the box from Utah Airguns, yesterday was my first outing with it, I know they did a leak test, and the barrel was quite dirty but cleaned it
(4 patch worms) what do you think?

Try another scope. Keep in mind the 20moa/5.8mil incline. 10-15" low at 25 shouldn't actually be possible with a level gun. Unless its tp is closed and the micro set all the way down, and the PW set on min.

Might also help to get the bore dead even with target if possible. Gun 90⁰, shoot a group if they're striking at or very near bore level jts the sight. Don't aim. Just set the gun level and shoot

Edit: I've bought FX guns from UA. Did they not send a card with the velocity they tested at with which projectile? It should even have the techs name on it.

Adjustable rings are crutches, but not for the gun. It's user error/misunderstanding /miscommunication and zero distance I think, if not improperly fit rings. With a 60 yard zero and 30 moa rail I need to hold over 6.5 moa on my impact to shoot 15 yards, which is also the hold for 100 yards.

The impact taught me more about optics and trajectory interplay than 20 years of 300 yard or closer rifle shooting did. It reminded me of the handful of 750 yard days I did with friends and didn't understand intersecting the parabolic trajectory in 2 places. Strelok as a simulator for different potential setups is pretty useful.
