Results N50 Leader Board Updated - May 29, 2024

End of May N50 Agg-Line leader-board updated again.
Eddie bumped BobS in Sportsman. Rick Thomas, Meeker, has 5th place in Factory 22 and Bobby Vance, Meeker, came up to 4th place.
Lots of shooters with just 2 cards shot waiting for the 3rd to jump in the leaderboard.
If you see errors let me know. Thanks
Someone let me know about an error. Fixed now.

Cool. Also interesting (and possibly a first) that Bob S. is within shooting range of sportsman rimfire, which (I think) is scored the same as N50 pellet. That's apples-to-apples pellet vs RF, though it would be better if shot on the same range (and the same day).

RF bullets have higher BC than pellets, so in theory RF should out-perform, at least in windy conditions.

Other thoughts on this?

Yes, you are right Dr. Kim, pellets should not normally be competitive in Sportsman Class. But it has been done before. I was awarded 2021, end of year, 2nd place Sportsman shooting mostly pellets. At Raton Nationals, all 3 years those shooting pellet rifles scored very well against both Sportsman & Pro 22LR.
Yes, Sportsman scored with .35 plug. And yes, 22LR should be better in the wind. At Raton, all are shot at the same time. Thoughts? Some pellet rifles are getting better; pellets are mostly crap - as you well know.
What do you observe?

2023 N50 National Championship, Raton, NM. Only 5 points separated Dana & Mike.

Whoa, 2 points separated Keith & Irwin - 2022

2021, Ardey beat me by 6 points.

Hi Lou and thanks for providing interesting results (and great shooting). Maybe more questions than answers..

Skill in shooting wind conditions likely plays a role. Less wind deflection with higher BC RF could be partially negated by pellet shooters with better knowledge of when (and when not) to shoot, reading flags, learning quickly where to hold, etc. Also some conditions may favor some shooters over others: those who shoot well in switchy may not shoot well in calm, etc.

And perhaps BC isn't the only projectile factor. eg, even if pellets are driven more by wind it is possible the angle of deflection (up/down) is different in ways that make hold POA easier to determine, more consistent, etc.

Yes, RF is easier, a bit more predicable, less wild fliers, plus the bc makes it easier. I'm an ol' time RF benchrester so the transition to pellet was complicated. I've learned a bit so it's not as frustrating and I've come to prefer it.
Your 2nd paragraph is perfectly worded and is, I'm sure, subconsciously cured by practice.
Many successful competitors have roots in both CF & RF learning. It's probably a sickness those shooters are drawn to Pellet benchrest - anything real benchrest is for them.
I'm still trying to learn the magnitude of pellet aerodynamic jump - probably the source of my highs/lows. But its tricky. Strong full value wind seems to have little effect on 'jump' but light winds seem have more effect. IDK.
