Hw97 .20 experiences

A four month wait so far for mine, a .20 cal HW97K Blue Lam. 👍

Not Available?
AoA took the order for mine mid September.
I also saw them advertise recently a different break barrel HW in .20cal with a walnut stock.
That’s an old post, but it may still the same here in Canada. I was told they won’t take even custom orders for .20 and .25 cal. Believe me I‘ve tried. Half a year after they said that they listed 3 97‘s blue lam. Stainless. That’s when I broke my finger. And a few weeks ago I scored a HW45 .20. in Canada. Go figure.
‘It’s worth the wait for that 97. Mine doesn’t miss tree rats. If I notched it for every rocky, I’d have a pile of saw dust.
The Canadian dealer just got a minimal of an order from Weihrauch, first in almost 2 years. Nasty.
I’m open for a HW77 .20. Wish they offered more in Walnut. Crow

Yes! thanks for asking...they look to be out of stock already.

I'm dithering though, there is HW30 in .20. I have an R7 in .177 and really don't need another but all of my .20 are very sweet to me. I am just a little light on $$.

Some time back one of our worthy members announced that AOA had a couple of Gehmann aperture sights on sale, barely used. I clicked "buy" at the speed of light and I got a confirmation. And then got a "oops sorry, out of stock". I think about 400 of us tried to buy the three they had. Soooo, until it ships, the fat lady ain't sung.
Hello Star7
I have an HW97K BL .20cal on the order list myself. I purchesd a .20cal HW30S (Deluxe), (Different Stock), at the same time and it, the HW30, arrived in a couple days. It is a sweet shooter.

I have four 97’s and they are all super accurate but my .20 is my favorite. It is absolutely deadly and the POI is spot on anytime I remove it from the vault. It’s favorite pellet is the JSB Exact 13.73 Gr.

I posted a very detailed review of this rifle about a year ago that you might find to be very informative if you take the time to find it using the search features of this forum.
Please explain why the love affair with 20 cal? 17/22 I can understand, but why split hairs?

Some things simply can’t be explained but after now decades of airgun shooting, and a vault full of some of the best and most accurate airguns available that now or have included Skout, RAW, FX, Air Arms, Weihrauch, BSA, Walter, Daystate, Uragan, Kalibrgun, Beeman, etc, in .177, .20, .22, and .25, for whatever reason, and with much more limited pellet choices to be had, the seemingly inherent accuracy of the .20 caliber, from my 10s of thousands of pellets tested, is without question.

There also is no question that the right .22 in terms of accuracy and lethality makes the .20 come into question, but I own and have helped others on this forum acquire and tune .20 caliber Springer’s that will shoot at 50 yards and under with 75% of the available off of the shelf pcps, in terms of accuracy. I don’t know why, this is just a fact.

Below is a target from my 18 yard indoor range, typical of my .20 Weihrauch HW97’s performance. Certainly, I have some select pcps in .177, .22, and .25 that will shoot groups averaging .10” or even better at the same distance, but there are many pcps that will not shoot as well as this Springer in .20, and other 20s that have come through my hands. At 50 yards, it will shoot inside 3/4” under light wind conditions.

Finally, I am certainly not bashing the other calibers. My experience only indicates that, for whatever reason, the .20s inherently seem to be consistently more accurate.

Mine shoots about 5" left and 6" low..lol. I corrected that with signature zee rings with eccentric inserts and can get it almost complete zeroed with out using any turret adjustment, with an optically centered scope.
You can bend the barrel to correct if ya have the balls and skills to do it.
My 77K was also off quite a bit.
The Prosport was the closest of the three to being perfect.
Thanks again! The 97k blue lam came in last night and whew! you weren't kidding. Lottsa droop. I ordered another set of burris zees to compensate. I have 4 TX200hc and a TX200 rifle as well as a PS and never needed droop compensation. Thanks Weihrauch!

I am stuck inside right now and cannot get any further than 11m but it gives one hole at that range and no windage compensation is needed so I'm happy
(other than it sounds like you threw a banjo out a second story window...but its new).

I think they all twang with the factory guides, that can be fixed with a tighter guide. Don't think it hurts the accuracy, it's just annoying to hear. I'm going to have to find some 30mm zee rings for my 97K when I buy a new scope, my current ones are 1.0".

Not yet. I back ordered them I ordered the 30mm rings and can switch scopes to a 30mm tube.
I am in the middle of switching scopes around on rifles to a "better" configuration.
I see. I was going to say I have some extra 1.0" if that was what you're going to use. I switched to a pic rail on my rifles and really like it compared to the pic adapters I was using. The rail is .590 high and used with low ring height, raises my scope higher, which helps on the longer shots, but it's not stupid high..lol.

I was really biased against Pic Rails in classic powder burners but after using them in more uhh, defense-oriented applications, they look beautiful. The shot cycle on untuned HWs seems to move the rings on dovetail mounts if I don't get attentive.
Thanks for the help.
I always use the stop pin. I even machined a bushing for the receiver stop pin hole to make it a tighter fit. Seen in the middle hole, this one is on my Prosport, but I have them on my 97K and 77K as well.

I've had a HW98 .20 on order at Krale for 7 months, starting to wonder if I'll ever see it.
I called AoA to check on my order and they said that my 97K wasn't the blue lam. So I'm glad I contacted them and straightened that out.
If there isn’t anyone else next in line I just canceled a order for a HW98 in .20 cal. They just received it today. I canceled because I bought a 97 instead.
