Where do you live and do you like it there?

I live up in Northern Maine. The top half of the state is very conservative, and unlike other New England states, gun laws here are very Second Amendment friendly. We have high gun ownership and very low crime rates. Hunting and the shooting sports in general are a huge part of life here. People are incredibly polite and generous, and much of my family all live within about 30 miles of me. My house is on 6 acres including a 150 yd shooting range in my backyard. And beyond that, there's pristine forest, lakes, and mountains as far as the eye can see. I love it here, this is home.

got any pics:) Sounds like Paradise.

I live in Norway, in a town named Ålesund. For airgun shooting, I prefer my mountain cabin or my boathouse at the seaside.

Very interesting thread and I enjoyed reading the replies.

My wife and I have lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, and now a winter home in Coastal Georgia.

As we have no children to clean up after we are gone, we decided a few years ago to do a major downsizing and limit ourselves to a summer home and a winter home. The house in New Hampshire was sold and we kept our home in Coastal Maine and bought a winter home in Coastal Georgia.

As with all of our home purchases, we made a long list of what we wanted and it made looking much easier. We also don't like neighbors and a quiet and serene setting was paramount. Minimum of 20 acres, on the water, no right-of ways, no easements, no HOA's, etc, etc, etc.........

If you are wanting to get away from harsh winters and constant wind, think about Coastal Maine. Along the coastline it is considerably milder than just a few miles inland and a lot cooler in the summer. Like any State, the property taxes will vary widely based on the towns infrastructure. We feel very safe when we are in Maine and there are endless things to do.

One home in Coastal Georgia is on 35 acres and while the home and property are beautiful, it is very different from any place we have lived before. (I lived in China, Taiwan and Cambodia before I was married) I was expecting / hoping to have a more diverse set of friends in Georgia, but the racial tension here is something I never expected. Unfortunately I do not see the situation improving for at least six or eight generations, if at all. Medical care here is lightyears behind the North if that matters.

If you are into hunting, you will be able to hunt 24 / 7 / 365 for feral pigs in many parts of Georgia by any legal means, including fully automatic weapons (Class III). The crime rate where we are in Georgia is very low.

There will always be positive and negative things about a new location and I hope you find a nice compromise.

And the obligatory Air Rifle picture. For reference, the rifle is 52" long.

Phoenix, Arizona. Yes I like it here, yes it get really hot but it does not snow or get very cold. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and I have had my share of snow. Below is view from our bedroom.

Rio Salado Sportsmans club home to EBR is 41 miles away, AoA is 21 miles away. I can legally shoot at home and my closest neighbor several 100 feet away depending on which direction you look. Great airgun club Phoenix Airgun Club and Rio Salado is a beautiful place

I’m in Northern California in the Sacramento Valley.

I’ve spent most of my life here, and absolutely love it. The Mediterranean climate is fantastic, and you don’t have to worry about getting rained out in the summer, because we don’t see a drop of rain from June to September. Our winters are wet and mild, and it rarely hard freezes, though we’ll occasionally have some frosty mornings in January and February.

It can get hot in the summer, sometimes 110+, but the humidity hovers between 20-30%. Much more comfortable than summers in states where the humidity is 85%+. Being outside isn’t so brutal, and sitting in the shade actually cools you off. Plus that’s what the mountains and the coast are for, to get out of the heat.

It also has some of the most beautiful landscape you’ve ever seen. I live at the base of the Sierras in the transition zone into the Cascade range, and the Pacific Ocean is a 4-1/2 hour drive to the west. We spend time every year in the mountains and at the ocean, so it’s nice to have that variety to choose from.

We’re primarily an agricultural area, with lots of public land around, and lax airgun laws, so there’s plenty of places to go shooting. We’re also very conservative in this area, which you’d expect being primarily agricultural, and we still value our freedom.

The cost of living isn’t bad either compared to the rest of California, and we’ve got roadside fruit stands all over the place if you like fresh farm-grown produce in season. I’ve looked into moving to other states whenever I get a wild hair, and housing prices are actually comparable to here. It’s mostly if you want to live in the Bay Area or SoCal that housing prices start climbing rapidly.

The photos attached weren’t taken by me, but this is all within twenty miles of my home in Butte County. Springtime is breathtakingly beautiful.

The main drawback that has personally affected me is wildfires. They can be a problem if you’re way out in the sticks, but thankfully the State has started to address the worst areas after we lost two towns in two years.

I’m a former resident of Paradise, that was almost completely destroyed in the Camp Fire, so I got to start life over again in 2018. That has been quite the journey. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost five years already.

Funnily enough, earthquakes are the least of our problems here, despite California being known for them. They plague the southern half of the state mostly.

Wow Fido that first photo with all the wildflowers is astonishing!

Here's photos of the Greys River road near Alpine Wyoming. I think I mentioned how much I liked it here before or maybe in a similar thread. My wife and I will be camping there next week.
If I could live anywhere during the summer this would be my 1st choice. Or at least in the Star Valley area near by.
When I walk through the woods I get a wiff in the air of the different types of wildflowers as I get closer to them. It's quite a nice aromatic experience.
The pics don't do this place justice. It's way prettier.

I live in Great Falls, MT. It's winter for 6 months and windy all the time. Like really windy. I am ready for a move. My wife says she likes Michagan mainly because of the kind of properties she is finding for $300-400k. I am willong to spend up to $500k but I don't want wind, I don't want 6 months of winter, and I don't want venomous snakes or gators. We have a lot of rattlesnakes in central Montana. I lost my dog to one in my backyard 2 years ago.
We live in central Ohio, and we like it. The Columbus area has a diverse economy and decent people. There are quite a bit of outdoor spaces like lakes and parks. Next to no snakes. A little on the cloudy side. Decent bang for your buck on real estate. Good luck in your search!
