My Magnetospeed chrono setup with my Texan .257 LSS

I needed a new chronograph since my 15 year old Chrono Beta was a pain in the arse to setup and use.
Also my FX pocket chrono would not read my Texan regardless of where I placed it. I did research this and did not find a single Texan shooter that could get their FX chrono to work with any big bore Texan.

Like the story of the Red Riding Hood, I had 3 choices. The Caldwell ballistic chrono, LabRadar or the MagnetoSpeed.
Caldwell - same problem with setup and shooting. Sunny days, cloudy days, indoor and outdoor shooting needed special attention.
LabRadar - too expensive, $650 too big and bulky and needs special placement in order to read shots consistently.
MagnetoSpeed - 1 of 2 models not intended for airguns without a simple modification. Sporter model $179, Model V3 $450

My 1st choice was the MagentoSpeed Sporter model because of the $179 price tag. In order for the Sporter to work with my Texan .257 and with a Donny FL Ronin moderator, I need to add 2, .750 square magnets to the bayonet so that it would read the slugs exiting the barrel. This is the only hack that's needed. I also had to set the sensitivity to level 2. (there are only 2 levels of adjustment)

My next and final choice was the V3 model which as tons of adjustments and 11 sensitivity levels. With all the included adjustment pieces, this worked right out of the box and was the winner.

I hope this helps .

You will notice a few 3d printed mods I made to simplify and for ease of installation. These are not really needed, but work great. PM me if anybody needs more details.

Moral of the story. Get the Magnetospeed as it works great! The only down side, is that the MagnetoSpeed, when installed, looks like you are ready to charge the enemy in close combat. (hence the bayonet looking gadget)

Added magnets to my sporter model as well but could not get it to read all the time, only some of the time.
My 1st try with the Sporter, I got 100% readings from 60 shots. Make sure to set to level 2 and the end of the barrel or moderator is about 1/2 into the "gap". Also important is the .250 inch gap below of the slug exit.
