Ghost or impact

I know I'm hogging space, but I smell the next few question coming. Is the purpose for this platform target, pesting or hunting? If live quarry, what size is it and the general distances involved? Caliber? maybe slugs would be better. The inpact has specific liners for certain projectiles, not sure if the ghost barrel is conducive to both pellets and slugs. But I believe it has a standard barrel, not a liner.

I had an Impact MKII in 30 cal and it shot great. You had to verify the POI each time I took it hunting….lots of Orings that went bad (I bought it used) so I had to rebuild it before I could even shoot it. It took a little work to get it tuned just right, but you always had to check it’s zero. I sold the Impact when I got a 30 cal Delta Wolf.

I then bought a ghost carbine in 22 and after a good barrel cleaning loved the rifle. This rifle shot better than my DW….I traded in my DW and got a ghost 30 cal. Good cleaning of the barrel and a tack driver…put my DW to shame.

Durability wise….It travelled to New Mexico, Oklahoma, then down into Texas in a soft case. When I got to Textreme it took 5 shots to confirm yardage turret and after the 2 days, in hot, humidity, and rain it got me 1st place.

Off to Utah after that for RMAC and again at sight in it was right on.

Back home to Arizona and another first place in a local competition…..Off to shoot P dogs in snowflake and longest confirmed DRT was 185 yards.

‘Durable? Hell yes….I love the platform. Very easy to tune, durable, and both of mine shoot great.

I have only shot pellets so far.

Great responses. I’m most a mix of pests and small range accuracy. Love the power of a . 25 I owned. But have been limited in the city, so the leshiy 2 really stood out for the ability to break it down. But…. I also was seriously considering both the ghost and fx in max compact version, hence the question. I probably would do the .22, but I remember with my .25 thinking, would more just be highly intense in a great way. So I am stuck

I have 2 ghosts 177-25 and an m3 with 22 and 25 600mm barrels i like all 3 but the ghosts are everything everyone says about daystate and while the m3 isn’t everything everyone says about fx its not a daystate either.

I love my 177 ghost for field target so much so i quit shooting my red wolf and while i havent shot many slugs thru it it looks promising. The 25 shoots pellets very well @ 100 im taking both to the pa cup and well see what i can do with them i have no real complaints with either but the 177 is a hp and I’ve had to set it up below the recomended power for the gun but again my red wolf is my backup.

Very interesting. It definitely looks like a great gun. I was looking at the pathfinder in .22, but really wanted the option to tune down power vs lacking it. At 780FPS I am just not comfortable. It is kind of a bummer sense the gun breaks down for travel. The Ghost took care of the power issue. I have been reading a lot though on when pellets actually become unstable. Interesting stuff

While I'm far from an expert on these two platforms. I would tend to agree with this , at least initially. The Impact is known for it's variables, the ghost is a relatively new release. Another 6 months will confirm that guns durability.
The gun durability?… Just simply look at the rest of the XR line… “all” are fairly “robust” PCPs. No wallflowers in the entire XR lineup.

@Hhall1, if I had to pick between the two…? The Ghost…

If you want the opportunity to shoot slugs or higher power, I’d go with the ghost. If this is just a back yard pester, for under 50yds, why not get the pathfinder and save some money. It’s capable of good power for pests, and it’s super light and agile compared to the ghost.
Guess as rangur says, it’s dependent on what you’re using it for.

When you made the comment about being in a “city” I thought Pathfinder XR. Mine is shooting at 788 fps avg. for 25 FPE at the muzzle. At 100 yards the JSB Exact Jumbo 18s are generating 13.6 FPE, at 50 yards 18 FPE. Plenty for small pest out to that distance. Recently a fellow posted about a coyote he took with his .22 Pathfinder XR, mine has taken many pest birds with shots out to 60+ yards. You can bump up the power on the Pathfinder… But, if I were in a “city” or had to choose only one? My .22 Atomic XR… As for the BRKs? There isn’t a bad apple anywhere in their lineup, just solid and reliable performers.

i have not handled the ghost.
but i do have an impact m3 compact in .25

dont think of the impact as only being a gun for people who like to turn knobs all the time lol

because alot of people who own one turn knobs without the slightest clue as to what they actually do lol

the impact is super easy to tune IMO,
but once tuned,i leave it be.

but it does make it very easy to retune for different ammo/power level.

and they are purdy to look at too

Good points here. I agree that the BRK’s seem like nothing but quality to say the least.

I forgot to put in my post when I was hunting P dogs, the 30 was in a soft case in the bed of the truck while I was shooting the 22. Going from permission to permission we drove on paved roads and some very bumpy dirt roads....Didn't depend what ghost was riding in the bed of the truck in a soft case while the other one was in the truck with me, it never changed the POI.

Cole "Franklink" was who I was with while shooting P Dogs and guess what rifle he had 🤔 a ghost. We both laughed when I showed up with the 2 I owned.

I had the same decision a while back & studied like you but I wasn't looking for all purpose even though a ghost can be exactly that. I was only interested in .30 & strictly 100 yard shooting. I'm actualy adding weight to it soon & it already heavy as heck with the scope I put on it now..If you search around you will see the Ghosts tend to shoot very very well with minimal anything. I did have my barrel cleaned & polished before I took it. Straight outa box with what ever AoA had sh.. set at ,44's at 940 I think, it shot 5@ 7/8 ctc @ 100 without a problem & fully capable of repeatable 1/2" with 50's or 44's I'm convinced. as most said it comes down to what your doing with it. I suspect it will out shoot you in any calibur & that is what you want. I will however have to go deeper in trigger work to get to my full happy. I'm sure FX is great too, just haven't went there.PXL_20230722_013030530.jpg
