Notos strikes again

Windy day today, got home early not even expecting to shoot. However, I looked out back and a bunch of starlings were harassing a baby Robin on the ground and the adult Robin's were flipping their chit.

I decided to intervene. I shot the younger starling first as it was a sitting duck. The flock flew up to the wires and then came down and hovered over the baby screeching. Never seem them hover like that. The mother came down and got a dose of 21 grain lead.

Oh, I finally chronied the 21 cuda pellets, and they're averaging 666 fps which is just hilarious. Over 20 fpe too boot!

Happy pesting gents!

The 21 grain Baracudas are my P35-22s favorite pellet. It's pushing them a bit faster, about 835 fps. I killed a raccoon with them last week. It took 3 shots although the 3rd was just to get if over quicker. The 5 squirrels it has taken so far folded up at impact. I like the Match version for targets but it is accurate with the less expensive Power and "plain" Baracudas too - they are just a bit less consistent and thus a bit less accurate. For plinking or short range hunting it wouldn't make a difference.

The notos loves the 5.52mm match pellets. It'll stack them into one hole at 35 on a good day and with a solid rest. Does awesome with the baracuda hunters as well. I wouldn't try a coon with the notos, but its taken a couple dozen squirrels so far. Best shot was 42 yards on top of the electric pole. Squirrel was facing quarter away, I leaned on my fence post, put it about a mildot above his ear, and literally watched the pellet drop into the sweet spot between the eye and ear. Had a similar shot earlier in the day. Squirrel was about 40 out, and up a good 45 foot, giving me his left side. Waited til he stopped licking his side and presented me a head shot. It curled up and dropped like a stone.

I will shoot a few more targets before deciding for sure but I think my P35-22 prefers the 5.51 Match variety. I shot a 199-18X with it today with those pellets on the 30 yard challenge. I think it's a great way to see what your gun really likes. Best with the 5.52s is a 195 at the moment. I think it will do a little better but probably not a 199. But either will take squirrels very nicely. 2 of the 5 I've taken with it only had part of the head visible 25-30 yards away. But that was all I needed. The last one was a body shot at 17 yards up in an oak. Pellet went in behind one front leg and came out on top of the opposite shoulder. She dropped at impact. One poor little male was way up in the top of a big oak, probably 75 feet up on a limb too narrow to hide his little body. I might have missed him except his tail was waving in the breeze. I walked all around the tree trying to get a better angle and finally went back to where I first saw him and slipped the pellet past the limb and into his head. Really accurate guns are a blast.

The Notos seems like a modernized Prod. My Prod was my first PCP and I still enjoy it occasionally. I decided it needed more power and increased it to about 18 fpe. Nice that the Notos is starting out above that. Should work great at reasonably ranges.
