HW 50 22 cal fine for squirrels but for raccoons? They can get very big. I know it is possible but would you not want something more powerful?

I have had many break barrels and really don't like the cocking of them

ok then maybe a C02 gun , it is just that a PCP requires an air source ($$$)

The venerable Marauder .25 would be a good first choice. Lots of go fast parts (not needed but available) is easy to fill at 3k with a hand pump and would take care of either a squirrel or racoon.

That is a deep rabbit hole right there, fair warning!
