M3 Macro and Micro tuning

One train of though: If you want the most function out of your gun, set the macro on 16 and slowly adjust the micro until it won't cock the gun. Slowly back off the micro until it cocks.

That is as much hst as your gun will do. From there you can simply mess with the valve adjuster and macro to for other settings. The micro won't need to be messed with. Bear in mind you need to set your 1st and 2nd regulators too. I would suggest researching what others settings are for the ammo you wish to try. Should put you in the ball park.

The other idea is to adjust the gun for a certain proven velocity of a specific type of ammo. Your 1st and 2nd reg will need to be set too. I won't post an entire write up as I believe a little research on the forum and you can find it.

I get the tuning part. My question was regarding the actual effect on the spring. Your answer will be helpful to some but doesn't answer my question.

That doesn’t answer the question.

Dens: the answer is Yes, your understanding is correct!

Both adjustments affect the hammer spring. Shooting over a chronograph you should see two different speeds from those tunes, unless I completely misunderstand the purpose of the adjustments.
Chukar - this misunderstanding is common. If you set the micro wheel to say, 3, and then change the macro, you’ll see that it jogs the micro by a few clicks at a time.
