Too much stuff

And some people choose to bludgeon their husbands to death with his frozen cat; however that is neither a good tool for the job, nor a good example of good sense.

From occasional comments on this forum I get the impression airguns are sometimes considered for self-defense purposes, mostly by folks living in countries lacking enough sense to allow proper tools for the job; but occasionally in my country by people lacking enough sense to choose a proper tool for the job.

You state a point I only inferred, that being you don't NEED a gun for hunting; because there ARE other good tools for that job, and some folks that might not lack good sense actually prefer to use less efficient hunting tools.

I should probably abstain from commenting on people that choose to defend their home with a bow, others with a club, others rely on a home security system and a safe room...

But you get the picture.

Everyone's an idiot but you and those who do exactly as you do. Got it! :p

(yes, you probably should abstain)

You work your whole life to save for retirement to live happily ever after. Plans can change quick, due to health. 1 spin around the dial. That’s it!
4 years ago I was after a squirrel gun. 50 springers or more now. Today I shot six of them, so they don’t just sit there.

Had 4 high end guitars as well. Sold. Could only play air.

For years, decades actually, I was very into firearms. My tastes run toward the classic wood stocks and blue steel. I amassed a significant collection. I used most of them and shot all but a very few exceptional examples of some hard to find models.
Then I just started to lose interest in hunting big game, shooting handguns and fishing. I now have a safe full of older vintage guns and for some reason I don’t seem capable of parting with them. They come out twice a year to be inspected, cleaned, oiled and put back in the safe.
Then I got into this bloody sport and went ape crap crazy buying upper end air guns, at least buy my standards. Then I look around and see I am a skin flint compared to some here and I feel much better.
I may even have room for just one more……

You're the victim of both excellent marketing and your own human nature. You really will be happier without so much stuff to drag through life.

I recommend turning off the television because it trains you to spend money on things you don't need. Like Bud Light...

That’s somewhat antiquated thinking. Good point though. Algorithms target is now via apps, browsers, social media, ect. You can clear your cookies or use VPNs, but it’ll only get you so far IMO.

Anyhow, @cahil_2 Who convinced you to buy all of that stuff? You can’t possibly shoot all of those guns at the same time, BUT I’m trying to imagine you on a 27 foot boat bristling with about 10 rods affixed about the vessel trolling along looking like a mechanical aquatic porcupine. If these things enhance your wellbeing, I say enjoy life my friend. I assume that you worked for the money spent to purchase those goods.

@AirNGasman I swear I love your replies sometimes. Your candor is very entertaining.

"Candor"... I like it!

Glad you can appreciate it, E4. Not all do (or can); perhaps because it's becoming a rarity. It does get me in trouble, but I don't let that bother me.

Happy Shooting, Bud.(y)

If it's old-fashioned for a man to only desire women, I'm okay with that. But only one at a time. ;) Nowadays, they're attempting to make mental illness a thing.

I run linux Firefox with ad-blocker and noscript. I don't have a TV or cell-phone either. Books are my go to, besides my other hobbies.

The more stuff you have, the more time and money you have to spend taking care of it. My dad is 88 and has multiple properties to deal with, along with a bunch of collected junk. He can't handle it anymore and it's heart-breaking to see. I spend a lot of time helping him deal with the un-necessary.

Cheers,

J~

@Treefrog By “antiquated” I was simply speaking of Internet streaming services taking over the market once dominated by broadcast networks. With this shift came algorithmic targeting in marketing. Commercial advertising has long surpassed the limitations of television and radio spots (and other “traditional” methods). I do see pearls in your posts in regards to excessive acquisition.
