Making do, front bench rest

Wanted a decent front rest for bench shooting. However, I’d much rather save my coin for better grade airguns than spend it on accessories if I can.

Okay, let’s see what can be cobbled up from my Collection of Potentially Useful Things (what my wife lovingly refers to as my junk).

Spoiler - the eared bag was purchased used off eBay. Also threaded inserts for legs came from hardware store. Sometimes gotta spend a little coin.

From the Collection:
Black base disk a cast iron base weight from a discarded floor lamp. Center column is a roller from a NordicTrack. The post is a large carriage bolt. Wooden pieces were fashioned from maple cutoffs. Adjustable feet picked up long ago at a surplus store and stashed away. Other misc bits to finish all from the COPUT.

Well weighted, stable. Was fun to make.

Looks great! I used to own a Nordic Trac ski machine and several floor lamps that all went to Goodwill, little did I know….

Looks great to me! I made something similar, without the weight, years ago when I was shooting only PBs. My nut is different, however. You have a wooden piece with a nut in it. I may have used a larger piece of all thread, I think it is 3/4 inch, but it was big enough I drilled and tapped the flats of a big nut and put 1/4 inch bolts into the big nut. They make turning it every easy. I only use it on my airguns if I can't mount a bipod, however. I use a home made monopod on the back, however, for elevation adjustments. It is just 3 couplers for 1/4 all thread welded together and ground on one end to fit snugly into the Mike's quick release sling mount. A carriage bolt with a brass knurled nut fastened with blue lock tight and a felt stick on chair leg thing on the head of the bolt. Works great.

Couple summers back, went to a garage sale, why...don't know as I have plenty of junk already...found an old all aluminum camera tripod. Legs adjust down to 14" then up to over 4' tall. Removed the camera mount and created a mount for a small ear bag, then covered that with slippery felt fabric. I only shoot springers and rimfires, so I need the slippery surface forvthe recoil. Anyway, it makes an awesome shooting rest, light in weight fully adjustable from standing to sitting to even prone. Best 15 bucks ever spent.
