Classifieds protocol here??

If someone says "I will sell you my 2023, .22 cal Booger Brand, elephant killing air cannon for 100 usd", that constitutes a legal "offer". If someone else then says "I'll take it," that constitutes a "legal" acceptance of that offer. The result is a simple, bilateral contract in its most basic form. Unfortunately, even these most basic legal and social principles seem to be beyond the comprehension of some folks.

Seriously? I have bought thousands of dollars in bows, guns and air rifles over the years and I myself have backed down 4 or 5 times. Not a big deal. I had people back down on me. If I am selling something and someone tells me I will take it and I get more inquiries I always reply that I am still waiting funds if buyer backs down I will let you know. There are more important things in life to worry about than a potential buyer getting cold feet, move on you must desperately need the $

If the buyer backs out and tells you, that's fine, go to buyer number 2,3, etc til sold. I think Trucker is referring to being ghosted which I have had happen multiple times here by non frequent users.

Incorrect, it's not a "legal" agreement. Look up associated case law.

I've worked in retail for many years .... If I had a Nickel for every customer that stated,, I'll be right back, heading to the bank for the cash ( getting a better deal ) and never came back  Or states YES I WANT IT, will you hold it for me ? I'll be back in the morning or other such BS & again never show there face.

It is the way of folks WANTING something, telling a seller what they wish to hear, then realizing that commitment is just not realistic & saving face too NOT speak about it further rules the day. Chicken Poop .. Absolutely.

As a member of a PB trading forum (Outdoors Trader in Georgia) I have over 125 positive, 0 negative, 0 Neutral... I've never found it necessary to ding anyone with a negative. However, I'm glad others have so I can see who to be aware of. I think the spirit of leaving negative feedback has more to do with warning others than it does to "get even" with someone who ghosted you. Leaving negative feedback isn't my style but it serves a purpose if used without malice.

Agree completely! It's NOT about revenge but it's about warning others of the integrity (or lack thereof) of with whom they're dealing. There's nothing wrong with having second thoughts about committing to the sale as long as you're truthful with seller & not hanging them up. It's just common decency to not waste someone else's time & energy. Sadly, these days there's nothing COMMON about common decency.

Legality, or better yet, "lawfulness" means very little anymore unless you have the power to assert it on your own behalf.

Regardless, I think when you are trying to sell an item on an internet forum, we might recognize with gratitude the fact that we even have this opportunity to buy/sell/trade as (mostly) and among (mostly) regular people. If someone wants to buy my item when it's late at night after a six pack, or maybe has an embarrassing financial situation come up so he's got to back out -- big deal right?

My time isn't more valuable than anyone else's. Perhaps I am blessed with a portion of patience. But anyway good luck collecting on your "legal offer", JW652 "the Airgun Bounty Hunter" ;)

Yes….that 50 bucks will make or brake me. It’s just about integrity man. Hell I received a streamline from a member with the stock snapped in two and not a single mark on any of the packaging to indicate carrier mishandling. The seller offered nothing not a thing and I didn’t leave negative feedback to that person because who knows what actually happened. Hard to believe someone would actually sell a gun in that condition to someone without saying it. Who knows. Really I’m ultimately not going to in this situation either as who knows what could have possibly happened in this persons life. Just a question posed as it is highly likely it’s just a dickhead move as well.

There are those of us here who come from a time where your word was your bond, even to a stranger.
Sadly, those days and the society that existed at the time no longer exist.
It is hard to adjust to new age morals and views on integrity and honor. So much so that I never sell on forums anymore. Far easier and safer to just drop it off at the dealer and let them deal with the retail customers. I don’t have to worry about people following through, revenge feedback etc. Pay a simple percentage of the sale price and done with it. The dealer bore all the headaches for what amounts to a pittance for dealing with the general public.
