Prophet 2 Performance PROBLEM!

Shooting my new to me Prophet 2 Performance .22 today. All was going well then “HISSSSSSSSSSS”. Air started pissing out of the barrel. Cocked and shot and then it stopped. Shot again and the air started pissing again. Cocked and shot and it stopped. This went on for about 5 shots. Not it won’t stop pissing. I’m assuming it’s the valve. As I read, it seems like bad valves are a common thing on these guns. Since most people are attributing sporadic velocities to bad valves, I’m unsure if this are air leak is really a bad valve or not. Any ideas people?

And now it has become clear that the speed variations are possibly the cause of the FX radar...At least in a few cases. Just noticed that when reading few other topic.. Just a small side note.

That makes sense. I’ll be ordering a new valve this week. Hopefully that fixes my problem.

It sounds like you have to much preload on the hammer hence when cocked it quits leaking but I don't know the rifles that well at all

Have you shot without air? How many turns on the hammerspring adjuster?

I did not shoot without air. Hammer spring was pretty light

If it is still leaking you have to take a look at the valve. Maybe an o-ring or something on the valve sealing.
Do you have a restrictor in the transferport?

I looked over the valve. I talked to a tech over at RTI. He believes the valve failed. Poor design. Hopefully the new style they are sending me remedies the situation.

I sure that RTI will get these issues ironed out and the P II will turn out to be as solid as the first version. I will buy one when it gets to that point and proves to be reliable for a year or two.

I wasn’t crazy about the RPB for pellets. Ended up trading it off for a LR barrel. I’m anxious for the valve and barrel to come in to try out the combination. Hopefully it is reliable after the new valve install.

I really like the RPB barrel on my P1, slower pellet speeds and slug ability too!! I still have my LR barrel as well, just in case MRD’s have a quality comeback, plus 18’s at high velocity work well also.

Received the new valve. Reassembled and all is well. Reg set to 125 bar slinging the MRD at 950 with a very smooth shot cycle. I hope they are accurate.

Question to those who have received the new valve. The plunger is threaded, but there is no spring guide like the previous version. Am I missing something?

Take a look at the pictures. This is the valve I ordered with a Prophet 2 this January 2023.
I recommend if you insert the new valve, remove the sharp edges of the spring, before inserting. It can damage the o-ring inside.

I personally talked to RTI about there Prophet 2 valves. I can tell you they have changed the valve. The replacement valve is completely compatible with all P2’s. The problem of valve failure is going to stop. The replacement valve is being built now. And will be available soon.

My wife is sick of seeing my P2 stripped on the kitchen table.
Hopefully this new, new, new valve will sort out the issue.

RTI is definitely confusing... I have no clue of how many versions of regulators they've done.. and now the P2 valves.. geeze!!

I’ve personally had five different RTI regs, still have four of them. Actually, now that I think about it, one may be a duplicate.
