School me on the Huma AMP replacement.

Without going into too much detail. I just want to switch to the Huma external gen 3 replacement, if it's been reported as a good alternative to the AMP regulator. So far I've heard mixed results but mixed is better than a 100% fail rate with two different regulators. I just think the AMP is a finicky little reg that's best suited for people who want to do a lot of tuning and polishing or, have a good one out of the gate. If you do? That's great! But I'm done with the quirks of the little guy and think I'm moving on from the reg. I like everything about the rifle except I can't group or keep the reg from drifting up, down or sideways. I have a digital reg and a good chrono that match the results.
So, without trying to start a fix-it thread for the AMP.. Anyone have good luck with the Huma gen 3?

Are we talking impact amp reg? If so, I’ve heard similar mixed feelings about the huma and the amp. If you’re having issues with the amp reg on 2 different regs, my guess is maybe it’s not the reg, and something else. I don’t know how skilled you are with your gun, but again, if it’s the impact, there are orings in the block the reg a screws into that are difficult to change, but can cause all sorts of reg issues. Replacing the reg to a huma won’t solve your problem.

Now after all that hearsay I just wrote, huma has been in the reg business longer than most pcp companies have, and they know what works and what doesn’t. If you’re dead set on doing away with your amp, huma is the way to go.

It's the regs.. They are doing two different things but both inconsistent. Did all the polishing, O-ring checks etc etc etc etc.. The rifle hasn't changed..valve, spring etc.. I've taken everything else out and could if I had more pellets to waste keep at it till one of them is as consistant as the Huma's I have in other rifles or even a Benjamin. All AMP regs are the same per their generation regardless of the rile.. IE: Gen 1, 2, 3 per FX and Huma. Looking for Huma information and it looks like you gave it.. That's a +1 for the Huma gen 3. ( I have several Huma's in other rifles.

All amp regs are not the same. There is a bottle and a tube version. The impact also has more orings in the cavity where it sits. These orings stay with the huma also. If they go bad, the reg can creep, be inconsistent, and generally annoy the owner just like the amp. I’m not trying to fix your problem, just don’t want you stuck with the same problem after purchasing the huma.

The AMP regs of the certain gen are all the same. I was told that the reg bodies between bottle and tube are also the same per generation. So I take it you have the bottle version and tube version both in the same generation and they aren't the same?

I’ve had both bottle and reg versions. They’re both different. My wildcat mk2 was a tube version (gen 1), and my first wildcat was a bottle version. Neither was interchangeable.
Either way, we’re getting off topic. I had simply brought up the fact that you never stated what gun you were talking about. I’ve given as much info as I can from my own knowledge. As I said previously, I’m not convincing you otherwise, just wanting to make sure you solve your problem for good.

If we’re talking the tube reg (biggest reason I asked) is you will lose the ability to externally tune your reg. The huma needs the tube to be degassed and removed to gain access to the adjustment. This doesn’t matter if yo I have a set it and forget it gun like my wildcat mk2 was, but if you tinker, it might be something you want to look at.

Huma said this is the same for bottle and tube. Externally adjustable see? Same as the one I have.. You thought there was a loss in external adjustment like the older version? Confused.

You probably want to make sure that there's no damage to the regulator housing in the rifle. I had ongoing issues with the first reg in my Maverick, which the Huma's exacerbated (unstable reg pressures, and then random leaks). It turned out to be a faulty QC issues with the housing itself in the piston seat.

If I hadn't replaced the entire unit this last time that would have been really good advice but.. I actually purchased the entire unit with the last one.
I'm just thinking I got two bad regulators. I know the odds are probably against it, and it's probably never happened to anyone else. Oh well... Either way I'm ordering a Huma and hoping the issue goes away.
