bought the wrong scope, I think

Arken Optics SH4 GEN2 6-24X50 Rifle Scope FFP VPR Illuminated Reticle with Zero Stop 34mm Tube

I hope this scope is clear at 10 yards, I like the 34 mm tube but I thought I was getting the light version but looking closer I do not see a L in there on the SH L 4 , All set to buy the Athlon 2x12-42 Helos and I go and buy the Arken, Just a brain fart I could send it back and get the Helos down the road when my refund shows up, Or I can just suffer and have a very heavy Huben 22,, Got my Crimson Trace 5x25-56 on my Huben now, Love the scope but its heavy 3 to 4 LBS if I was guessing. I so wanted to keep the Huben light, But this gun is like AT&T its got a reach to it long range,

Wow, the scope impressed me Have not mounted it yet just looked through it a lot..
Lots of Plus for a under 400 $ scope Very clear glass, And focus down to 15 yards , The only big negative I have is non locking turrets, I am going to mount it on my Huben for now, But I really want a LPVO scope for the Huben like a 1x10-28 got to be FFP and lighted.

I put the same Arken on my old Henry 357 / 38 long rifle heavy deserves heavy 😆

I've got a SH4 GEN2 6-24X50 34mm tube and a EPL46-24x50 FFP MOA VHR 30mm tube. I absolutely love the turrets, the ELP does has slightly better glass, but that is subjective. I believe, again subjective that the eye box is a bit more forgiving than the similar Elements. I like the Arken reticles especially with the .3MOA dot. My pet peeve is.....you can't lock the focus/diopter

Looks like my next screw up is going to be a Athlon 2x12-48 Helos FFP, I think the Huben is as close to perfect gun and I want a fast sighting and easy light weight scope that I feel comfortable with, I really like the Arkin but with the no locking teruits is a big negative for me on a hunting gun
Mike

Not trying to sway your decision as the Athlon is fine scope. But the Arken EPL4 has a very sturdy zero stop and a capped windage turret. Not much chance you will bump a turret out of zero. And when hunting with an air gun you will likely have to dial elevation anyway, unless you are taking close shots only.

I'd say to closely examine where in the mag range you'll be at the most often.

Then how dynamic of a shooting situation you anticipate being in.

IMHO the HG2 2-12 is best serving as a fast, short, light, optic and a good crossover optic for hunting. If you won't be using 2x-5× then why buy a scope like this because the thick reticle on low power is its main asset.

The Arken 6-24 is better suited for target use and situations when you'll be taking advantage of higher magnification. The biggest downside I wouldn't prefer is the reticle on 6x and the smaller FOV. I've hunted from 1× to 6x and I prefer 3×-4×. I used 4x fixed power scopes as kid and its in the zone I like to visualize in FOV for taking rabbits and squirrels when walking around.

It rarely happens but I have had large turrets snag on something during matches which can be frustrating. One time it did this when in my drag bag while carrying my stuff to the next stage.

Plus I holdover and off a lot so knowing both turrets are on zero and locked is an assurance.

That's why I prefer locking turrets and one reason why both my Helos G2 6-24 and my 2-12's are used the more often.

I like to plink on small steel as fast as I can with my Steyr ProX and I haven't found a better scope than the HG2 2-12 for this purpose.
It's also as perfect a scope there ever was for shooting at black bulls with the illumination on!

I put the HG2 2-12 on my PFT pistol and won our state match last year with the combo. I was so pleased with the decision to try it on that gun!

On my AR in 6mmFatRat I can hit a 19"×21" steel often in normal winds at 1122 yards with my HG2 2-12 on that upper.

It's one extremely versatile rifle optic which i haven't regretted buying. Edit to add = and I should mention there are a host of scopes from $50 all the way up to $3500 which I wasn't as satisfied with as I am with this is scope. Heck I have a March DFP 1-10 that I've compared to these HG2's and there isn't a huge difference between them, or basically I expected the March to be WAY better but to me it really isn't.
