Current scope(s), Next scope, and Dream scope???

You might wanna check on the Leica product warranty. I have a range finder by Leica and the front bezel cracked. When I contacted the USA rep, they told me that they do not warranty any "older stuff" since they changed their warranty verbiage.
Just sayin' as while I really like the product, the warranty is suspect.

i have alot of guns and need a really functional scope on all the ones i want to use regularly, we're talking about 12 .. the thousand dollar scopes are out, wish i could affird all that but nope .. the budget scope i like the best so far is westhunter 4-16ffp, got 7, need several more lol .. yes, i think theyre that good compared to just about anything else short of turret twisting competition, which im not into ..

I had the March 5-42. Many upsides but for my old eyes it didn't pull off magnification above 35x all that well and actually I didn't prefer the IQ more than at 30x. It's a weird scope because at 15x its very nice???
I sold it then bought a March Genesis 4-40x52. The IQ is great at 40x and I like it a lot in every way. It's no hunting scope as far as walking around because its crazy heavy.

Got the shorty March 1-10 dfp which I like too.

I still want a March HM fixed 48x or 10-60 at some point.

When I looked through my S&B 5-25, a S&B 3-20x50 compact, and ZCO 4-20, in a side by side I couldn't see hardly any difference EDIT (and the turrets did not have that tier 1 feel in the ZCO 4-20) ?? Certainly not enough for me to spend the extra money.

The TT 5-25 IQ was really nice and to me outclasses my friends ZCO 5-27. I like the zero set feature on the TT but the click spacing is so close together.
People really get excited about ZCO but I wasn't overly impressed for the money.
So TT all the way except for its expensive.

I've read great things about the Vortex G3 6-36 and that includes IQ. It's the one I'd buy in FFP for the money without going to the tier #1's.

I know this may seem like a bit of a stretch but the scope I like a lot in my stable is the Athlon Helos G2 6-24x56. Lacks a tad in IQ compared to the Midas TAC but sure is a great scope otherwise. They knocked it out of the park with this one!

NEXT SCOPE:
Not sure yet. It depends on what airgun I decide to get next. I always try to match the scope to the gun and it's purpose.

DREAM SCOPE:
- ZCO ZC527 5-27x56 with newer 10 MIL per rotation and NLE turrets released at Shot Show 2023.

- March Genesis 4-40x52 or 6-60x56.

- I wouldn't mind a Tangent Theta 5-25x56 but the parallax only goes down to 50 meters.

I'm not asking for much and one can only dream right?

I have a question, and by no means do I mean to insult anyone. I’m just curious.
Several of the scopes mentioned in this thread are crazy expensive. Like TT and ZCO.
Are scopes of that price/quality range really necessary for an air rifle? I mean WOW.
I’m not wealthy buy any means, my last ten years at work as a maintenance tech and then
fabricator, I pulled down 100K and the last three 140K (working a lot of OT) but at no time did I entertain stepping into that range of scopes. I did splurge once and got a Nightforce NXS I guess just because I could afford it, did I need a scope of that quality and price? Absolutely not. But it was cooler than sh!t on my Savage model 12 in an MDT chassis. It was stupid accurate, but I sold it.
I think it’s most of the time because folks can afford it. Justify it? Not so sure.
I read about what I think is a high majority of guys on the site that use, say, bottom third of price range of scopes and are very pleased.
If you can afford top tier scopes, COOL. But is it necessary? I’m thinking it is more like owning a Vette or Lambo, there’s that ego and pride of ownership. And that’s fine. I like cool factor in a lot of things.
I do remember one thing I read back when I was competing in high power service rifle. At the time M1A’s were the norm. The article was sort of budget/skill related. The author said “ A $3,000 rifle in the hands of a poor shooter is a $3,000 rifle in the hands of a poor shooter”.
To each his own. I have three Element scopes, an Aztec Emerald and an Athlon Talos. Sort of mid-range scopes.
I chose them for reliability, mostly knowing I could count on windage and elevation adjustments being true and repeatable. Glass clarity, sh!t, I’m not a military sniper, I shoot in broad daylight, sometimes in the woods where it’s not bright but adequate.
Again, not meaning to offend anyone. I used to work in a scuba store. Me and a co-worker referred to it as a “want” store, not a “need” store.

I started down the path buying airgun scopes not too many years ago seeing a trend that there were great things coming down the pipe as far as scopes features go, including these features becoming more "affordable". Today I can say that I was right in that scope's are more feature packed, and a lot of these features are now packaged in affordable scopes. I've gotten models with most of the "list" checked off from $200.00 all the way up to the $2000.00 range. Buy what you can afford, but looking through and using a high-end scope is great compared to the lesser scopes, and will last a lifetime (if you're "careful" with it).

The next high-end game changers are the new March-FX 1.5-15×42 dual reticle and the March-FX High Master 4.5-28x52 wide angle scopes.

""Are scopes of that price/quality range really necessary for an air rifle?""

Of course not! There's need and then there's want. But if it makes one enjoy the experience that much more then I say have at it, if not then get what you need.

I blame it on my Dad. He liked nice stuff and I guess I'm like he was. When I was a teenager he bought me a B&L 2.5-8x scope for my deer rifle. The difference was "clear" compared to the cheap scopes I was used to which were the $20 to $40-ish scopes I had back then.

When I got into FT comps over two decades ago some of the "clearest" scopes were the B&L 6-24's and 8-32's. After using those it was hard to go for lesser scopes in IQ.

And here I am now, gotta have at least a few super nice ones.....

Steve, what do you think of the new Athlon Heras line? They seem to be about the same price range as Helos. What the difference and why buy one over the other? PS., I have an Athlon Helos gen2 2-12x on my speed gun and it’s awesome!

I had the Midas Tac - One of the best optics for under $1,000, on sale for $525 is was a no brainer.

I now have the Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29 - I am in love lol

Next (as of now) will be the Leica PRS 5-30 - Sexyyy!!

Dream scope- 3 way tie;
-Tangent Theta 5-25
-ZCo 527
-March FX 5-42

How about you?
I have a Vortex 6-36 on the way. Probably about as high as I will go again. I have never had any reason to want to go all the way up to TT or ZCO. It is odd that I haven’t owned a March yet, with all the scopes I’ve owned, but the pricing for the right option with the right reticle just hasn’t worked out.

Have owned Kahles, S&B, NF ATACR, Athlon Cronus and many others of lower quality, I rather enjoy the Cronus. As much as I loved the ATACR, I could buy 2 Cronus’s for that, so I did. The Kahles is the only one I haven’t sold. I couldn’t pass up the deal in the Vortex, and have seeing Ilya’s video on it, I had to break down and try it. I actually have to buy a new rifle for it!

In the end, they all have things they do well or better than others, and everyone doesn’t agree what is most important to them and our eyes don’t see things the same. That is why two people can look through the same scope and have different opinions.

I have couple of 4.5-30 delta strykers, a vortex razor lht 4.5-22x50 and the Leica prs 5-30. The Leica is absolutely stellar optomechanically and a big step up from the others.
The view is such that it always finds its way onto my most used long range gun, however much of a pain switching scopes around may be.

@bigHUN I got a Riton 7 CONQUER 4-32×56 that had an srp of 1980 that they put on sale for 3 days for $990. So sometimes the stars do line up!
@Centercut I was wondering about the Heras line myself. I've been looking for a 4 x 18 x ?? and it has popped up on the radar along with the new vortex strike eagle.
Dream scope - March, Steiner, K&H... I can only dream!

Damn you have some optics bud. Kahles is sick bc I am lefty so I love that parallax on the turret. I agree if I got the ZCo I would get the NLE turrets as well. I have no use for locking turrets. I have never had a turret move on it's own before.
