Favorite Accurate Dependable High Shot Count .22

All this love for the Crown’s has really got me taking a close second look at one of the $1200 “VP MkII refurbs” UAG is offering currently… too bad you can’t get it with the 380mm barrel… and that looks perfectly portable for walking the property with! 🤙
Can’t hurt to call Utah and see how much the up charge would be. Maybe they’d give you a sort of trade in deal for the 600 barrel.

Consistent accuracy at 100 yards is a lofty goal. I think that means a HP .22 as a minimum. I think we can make a mistake by thinking, well, most of my maximum range is, say 50-60 yards, and the 80-100 yard distance is only occasional. Even if the extended distance is infrequent, you still want to be able to hit it, and a standard power rifle, IMO, will not offer that kind of comfort. I would consider three rifles, RAW and Red Wolf, both in HP version, and and FX Boss (30 cal). The 100 yard requirement really cuts down the population of suitable candidates.

Great question. To qualify as “high shot count” In my mind I’m thinking 60+ med-high power shots per fill… but closer to 100ish per fill sure would be nice!
OK, I misunderstood. I thought you were asking shot count as related to dependability. As in overall shot count.
So to revise my shots per fill of my Prophet. I am currently tuned to shoot JSB 25.39 at 950fps, and am getting 90 shots before dropping off the regulator pressure.
I have tuned it for 18 grain pellets and run out of loaded magazines before I run out of air. So that is 130 shots with enough air left that I could probably get another 30 or 40 shots, but I usually just call it at that point and refill both my magazines and bottle.

MY best .22 is my Brocock Sniper XR. I’ve got the reg and HS cranked up for power. But I swapped out the 480 bottle for a 580 and still get about 90 good shots per fill. Oh, and it’s exceedingly accurate.

Ironically, I upgraded (for more power) to an Uragan 2 in .25 to replace it. And so far I’m very impressed with the AGT 👍

Wow! That looks like the start to some Rube Goldberg machine!
Well, I'm not too sure about Ole Rube but the Taipan's trigger is about the best in the business with only few exceptions, the one in the FWB 300S and maybe the record trigger by Weihrauch. Not counting the electronic Daystate triggers which are exceptional.

I know they have a good trigger, but it is still amazing that they accomplished that with so many moving parts.

A good, safe mechanical trigger almost has to have a couple of levers to achieve the necessary geometry for a very light, but safe trigger. But in the best, the release feel is sublime, much better than electronic, at least in my perception.

Out of the 15 good quality airguns (Air Arms, Fx, Feinwerkbau, Weihrauch) I have, 7 of which are PCPs, my .22 caliber, 500 mm barrel FX CROWN MK2 is my go-to favorite!

Well designed, well made, good ergonomics (balance, light weight) excellent accuracy, trigger and shot-count.

I particularly appreciate that it is easily tuned and has been happy to shoot a wide variety of pellet brands and weights. Benched, 1/4 to 3/8 inch, 5 shot groups at 40 yards are typical with unsorted pellets.

Currently, my Crown is tuned to JSB Hades pellets as my walk-about hunting and pesting airgun.

I find myself daydreaming about the AGT Uragan 2 with a 600mm barrel in a carbon fiber stock and it is definitely on my radar… but before I commit to spending $2k I figure I would be wise to ask opinions from my fellow airgun enthusiast.
In my case it will be used primarily in my backyard for a combination of plinking and target shooting with a maximum available range that can potentially exceed 100 yards
What would be your personal top pick recommendation for a quality high shot count accurate dependable .22?

If 100 yards or beyond is your goal then you might want to focus on slug guns, pellets simply isn't designed for longer ranges.

Guns that are not easily tunable will be hugely frustrating for shooting slugs as slugs require much more tuning besides getting to a certain speed. I would give any gun that can't fine tune reg and hammer settings easily a hard pass if you want to tune for slugs.

FX Royale-not as widely available as the newer designs, but a solid performer. It's designed for pellets.

Very true...

My favorite is my P35-22. It's a lot less expensive than a Crown which I was considering when I found the P35. I shoot from my left shoulder and wanted a bullpup but was preparing to settle for a Crown. I got my 25 first because that was all Krale had and then last May I ordered my 177 and 22 caliber P35s. They all have 450mm barrels and weigh about 5.2 lbs. The trigger needed adjustment but that is not hard and the crowns needed attention in my judgement. Now the 22 has twice put 3 H&N Baracuda Match into exactly the same hole at 25 yards. I've shot a 194 (so far) on the 30 yard challenge which I was shooting at 34 yards (easier at the time in my yard). I have not changed the regulator setting it came with but adjusted the hammer spring to match it better. I'm getting about 835 fps on the 21 grain Match pellets or about 32 fpe and I get at least 60 shots on a 250 bar fill. I have not shot it yet further than 50 yards but will later this year. It is not a "high end" gun but the better examples shoot about like one and it is nicely short and light. It is also easy and cheap to make quiet. I initially did a "hair curler" mod but am currently using printed moderators inside the shroud for ~85db close to the muzzle.

Usually a good idea to stick to your first choice although all the above recommendations would fill the bill in fine fashion...however since you ask what my favorite is...always recommend the Taipan Veteran...mine is over 3 years old haven't even replaced the breech oring...I shoot JSB 18.13 for full power and Crossman 14.3 domes for reduced power and higher shot count...with superb accuracy, note the posted group...10 shots with the domes @ 30 yards off my knee not benched, flyer was probably me...one 360 degree turn of the hammer spring and back at full power and the 18'View attachment 330028View attachment 330029s do even better. Vets are renowned for how quite they are and the triggers are a dream...I couldn't print groups like that with less than stellar trigger, that's the issue I'm having with the Pro X at almost twice the price! Anyway you asked...it's the one I would grab if the house was on fire and could only take one...after I got the wife and cat out first lol...good luck and enjoy yourself!
