Scope for turkey hunting with 22 HUBEN

I use a hawke and a bsa, depending on which rifle I'm using. Blessed with lots of turkeys, typically get 5 a year plus guide some friends for their birds as well. I use pistols, rifles. 177 to .30 cal, but accuracy is imperative.
Last bird I took, dec. 10, 2022, was at 80 yards.
My daughter took a bird at 117 yards.
Not bragging, not encouraging ridiculous shots, but head to the bottom of neck gives you some forgiveness on elevation. Going away, the kidneys/liver give you a nice area to use. On my daughters shot, she took a shot in the other direction first, ensuring she knew the hold over- pellet guns are quiet, allow followup and practice shots at times. No
I prefer 10 yards of course!

If you go for the cardiovascular area, you should be good out to 75 yards no problem, more if you’re confident. I would suggest checking out recommended shooting angles for bow hunting, and mimicking those.

Turkeys look gigantic through your scope. Their heads are very small. You can also shoot down in the neck where it bridges the body.

Sometimes if you’re lucky, big Tom’s will come running right in. I would want 2x on the low end.

Laws? It’s way back in the swamp where “ normal” people dare not go. I’m thinking of setting a limit of 50 yards and then shoot targets from 20 to 50 just to get a vertical chart worked out. Huben‘s are supposed to be smoking fast so it should shoot pretty flat.
Game wardens aren't "normal people". They have a job to do and that's catch people breaking the law. I've been stopped on private land by a game warden to check my bag limit. You never know when or where they can be or who seen you and called them.

As for using the wrong size projectile. Look at it like this. They are just now starting to allow air rifle hunting for bigger game including turkeys. Dont go fuggin that up for everyone when you pop a Tom with a 177 springer and he doesn't die immediately and dies a week or two later from infections and suffering. Someone finds the bird and calls the warden, they see some ass hat shot it illegally and then they say whelp that's it, no more air rifle hunting.

Yeah but you just posted your intent to poach on public media (if it’s illegal in your state). Be careful, the first concern is you’re possibly breaking the law, second concern is they take and KEEP ALL your gear, maybe even your car. Not worth it. It’s like the priest who skipped Sunday mass saying he didn’t feel good to go golf. He gets a hole in one. Who can he tell ??

Oh yeah…..It IS Sunday morning and what WAS I thinking. Like I said guys, I’m absolved of my sins and the order to the UNIVERSE remains intact. That WAS a close one though.

Yes yes, we all abide every law ever so we protect our most cherished hobby:cool:

None of us have ever poached a squirrel out of season... its called "pesting" lol

But seriously don't shoot a big ass turkey with a pea shooter, they deserve much better. You do what ya want to those little bastard ass tree rats, starlings, and sparrows!
