Hammer bounce issue with a P-Rod

I recently bailed on a P-Rod bottle build, couldn't get the power where I wanted, so decided to return to the standard set up, and ordered a new tube. Got everything together and man does she have some hammer bounce! Never really had this issue with a P-Rod or a 1720T for that matter. Using a stock hammer spring. I have an extra so I removed 2 coils, put her back together, less than 200 fps with pa adjusted all the way out, all the way in gets me 650 fps, but it's loud, not at all backyard friendly. Can't figure out what's changed in the equation -
Have two orings in front of the valve, have tried the stock hammer with a Hill peek striker, and also a Mellon hammer/striker combo, same issue with hammer bounce - HELP!

Well, I am obviously not using the correct o-ring. I just removed the top end, put another o-ring in front of the valve, but that's now too much, no contact with valve stem.

I am pretty sure Crosman has changed the hammer spring dimensions,as the two new springs fit tighter on the "guide" - found the older, original hammer spring, now no more hammer bounce. Hope there's enough light to run a few across the chrony -

IIRC, they should be -113 orings

I think the one I used are #111 or #11 Danco from Home Despot. Not enough light in my yard to chrony, hopefully more sunshine tomorrow.

Have a Huma Reg on order, 30 shots at 19 fpe sounds pretty good. I want this gun to shoot, not tinker with, got other parts for that lol -

But glad to have the hammer bounce back in control before the reg install.

Just build a SSG for it. All these types of guns have hammer bounce whether you recognize it or not. I never found it appealing to pack my guns with orings because you are not really stopping hammer bounce. You’re just controlling dwell. With a SSG it’s one and done. You don’t have to think about stuff getting smashed or floating around inside your gun.

I might have 4 o rings in mine. I had to go to a .042 hammer spring to get velocity back up around 750 fps with H&N FTT, copper plated. With a 3000 fill I get close to 3 magazines at full velocity before it starts to gradually fall. I also increased the size of the transfer port. I think it's .111. The velocity is also very dependent on the hammer throw. 1.25 to 1.4 turns out seems to be best.

The original BStaley mod used 4 orings for the PROD.

The BStaley mod (oring buffer) was introduced around 2011.
These are the most useful links I have:

I have a PROD and I think it is obsolete.
It has been sold since 2010-2011.

I spent many hours tuning it.
This is is the airgun I have spent the most time on.
I will keep it because of my time investment not because it's really good.

The other airguns I have which are much better in my opinion are:
-Snowpeak/Artemis/SPA PP750 and PP700
-Kral N-03

Thanks for the info, guess I have to do some searches on SSG -

What trigger group and stock on that P-Rod?
From the looks of it, a disco/2260 trigger box with a custom blade. Dropped into a 160 stock maybe?

A Prod dropped in a 2260 stock with an Mrod trigger group and a 16" short shrouded barrel would be a sweet rig.

The Bstaley mod does work, ive used it on 2260 pcp guns and it smoothed things out. Need to adjust for hammer striker pin to use it to full effect though.

My gun was for sale maybe 6 months ago in the classifieds. I was going to ask you how you missed it but I think it sold before I had a chance to log off after posting it. I had a ton of hours in that gun. Before I put a reg in it I used a SS valve and had my spring mounted to my hammer. It just shot down the tube as one unit. Sold the valve to a guy in Alaska who really wanted it so I tried the reg approach. That’s when I needed a really accurate hammer strike so I built the SSG. The gun was good regulated but I never knew my pressure so I had to fabricate a gauge out near the fill port. I hope the guy who bought it is enjoying it.

All BS aside, a tuned P-rod bottle build with a GOOD quality LDC, will have a surprising amount of energy and still be back yard friendly. I have several M-rod bottle builds that are heavily tuned and are "City" back yard friendly.
