With my luck, I find it’s easier for me to just buy the mushrooms from the store. That way I won’t be killing myself with my lack of knowledge on mushrooms

LOL ! I just finished the leftover steak and shrooms ! I gave my father Pop
Probably a wise choice !With my luck, I find it’s easier for me to just buy the mushrooms from the store. That way I won’t be killing myself with my lack of knowledge on mushrooms
I don't wash the shrooms. I wipe them with a damp paper towel unto clean.I soak for a few hours in heavily salted water after splitting them in half. After that, just a quick rinse off and in the pan they go. I've not noticed dirt, but maybe I'm just so happy to eat them, I dont care...ha!
Interesting. Any particular reason why? Here, it's common to soak morels in salt water to coax out any bugs that may be hidden away .I don't wash the shrooms. I wipe them with a damp paper towel unto clean.
No !..They are tough critters requiring the old .300 Weatherby Magnum !Wayne, I want to hunt them too. Are you using your FWB 124?
Chantarelles like store bought mushrooms get kind of slimy when you was them. Its OK toInteresting. Any particular reason why? Here, it's common to soak morels in salt water to coax out any bugs that may be hidden away .
I see Boletes all the time but since I don't know for sure I avoid them. When we once lived on the North coast ( mendicino county ) the fall Chantrelles, Masitalki & Bolettes were a real treat.
Here on the western slope in the foothills of the Northern sierras, nothing eatable to make gathering treks worth while. Whats there the deer get almost immediately
Thats all I generally see of the eatables of interest. Get quite a few AMANTA's but that species has no many similar look-a-likes with some that will kill You !!!I see Boletes all the time but since I don't know for sure I avoid them.
Are you up in the Colfax Grass Valley area ? I think your elevation and type of trees plays aThats all I generally see of the eatables of interest. Get quite a few AMANTA's but that species has no many similar look-a-likes with some that will kill You !!!
Have always left them alone. Sure wish we had Chantrelles in this area as there my absolute favorite
That is a good book but still be careful. Many people have read that and similar books,My mouth is watering. I use Mushrooms of North America by Philip Glass for identificatiom, haven't poisoned myself.
Bit south near placerville. Are you up in the Colfax Grass Valley area ? I think your elevation and type of trees plays a
big part why you don't have them. These mushrooms love the Coastal regions of the Pacific
northwest.
That Humboldt County area around Garberville is an excellent area for Chantrelles.Bit south near placerville.
yea in the day was living above willits tho just below garberville.
Tan oak & madrone coastal woodlands.
SOOOO many mushrooms in those low lying woodlands along Hwy 101
Mushrooms works for me ! And I only speak English! Now English are one of my #2 languages.
But are you not supposed to call those Mushrooms, or am i falling into the American / English trap here.
Lots of mushroom pickers in Danish forests when its season.
Not sure what you're asking ??From what I have read, they are not the same although they may be related. Look them up and let me know what you find? (smile)
I think that is the same mushroom. Just a different name depending on where you live. I've tried
them on a few occasions but it's not my favorite. And it did have a crab flavor. They are expensive
though if you can find them for sale. Like $50 per pound expensive! I see the Chanterelles in some
stores between $15-$20 per pound. Most of these in our markets are probably coming from Oregon
and Washington
They are both in the same family known as Hericiaceae. From what I have read, they are not the same although they may be related. Look them up and let me know what you find? (smile)
